Abusers always say this when called out on their behavior.

It just doesn’t make any sense. We’re all in this together and no one is going anywhere, so why do people have to act like petulant children or angsty teenagers. The bigger picture is lost on them and then we all lose. I just don’t understand the logic or the end-goal and maybe I never will.
