I needed to haul something very large and heavy today. Did I buy a pickup truck, saddling myself with insane monthly payments, insurance, and maintenance? Nope, I rented one for $80, did the task, and returned it. It's that simple.

Just put the 21lb turkey into the oven-5 hours from now. Why now? Norbest turkeys were on special, .87/lb, only until Remembrance Day. 21lbs of turkey (less than that of course, excluding carcass) will see me & my Gud Boy Archie thru the New Year. Yes I defrosted it. Yes I got rid of the icky bits.

Workers in Merced County, CA are harvesting sweet potatoes. There's so much work at this time of year that there are multiple shifts. These workers start at 4 a.m. when it's still dark. Lamps hung on the tractor give them enough light to sort the potatoes by size into boxes. #WeFeedYou

For info only-one good-size head of cabbage will result in 2 quarts of sauerkraut w/caraway. This is how the 'hired girl' made it for my Calgary family, when we sponsored her after the war. The daughter of a Bavarian innkeeper, she arrived all by herself, courtesy of an Alberta programme. Bravery!
