Cheering for Luguentz Dort of OKC Thunder and Bennedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers in game 7 NBA finals today and since I am in QC I had to visit the Toussaint L’ouverture sculpture in Quebec City
Statue of Toussaint L'Ouverture in Quebec City by Aniocles Grégoire Text on the sculptures plaque: TOUSSAINT L'OUVERTURE Toussaint L'Ouverture was born into slavery on May 20, 1743, on Breda Estate near Cap-Haïtien (Haiti). A pioneer of Haitian independence and Pan-Americanism. A historic figure in the abolition of Black slavery. A promoter of human rights. Arrested and deported to France, he died on April 7, 1803, in the Fort de Joux prison in Franche-Comté. The statue is a gift from the Haitian Association of Quebec, on behalf of the Haitian people. September 2010 TOUSSAINT L’OUVERTURE Toussaint L'ouverture est né esclave le 20 mai 1743 sur l’habitation Breda, près de Cap-Haitien (Haiti). Précurseur de l'indépendance d'Haiti et du panaméricanisme. Figure historique dans l'abolition de l'esclavage des Noirs Promoteur des droits de l'homme Arrêté et déposté en France, il est mort le 7 avril 1803 à la prison du fort de Joux, en Franche-Comté.
