Assistant Professor plant-pathogen-microbiome interactions, Agricultural University of Athens, Greece
🌍 Why it matters:
These insights extend the known role of plant defenses beyond pathogen resistance — showing they are also crucial in managing beneficial microbiome interactions. This could guide new microbe-based strategies for sustainable agriculture.

🌐Root exudates from different mutants altered WCS417 transcriptome. Camalexin strongly inhibited bacterial motility/chemotaxis.
🌐On the 🌿side, WCS417 triggered distinct transcriptome/ROS responses depending on defense barrier.
🌐Overall, root defense barriers help plants balance growth and defense.

🔑Key findings:
🌐Plants use structural and chemical barriers not only to block pathogens but also to fine-tune beneficial partnerships.
🌐In 15 Arabidopsis mutants, some defense barriers reduced or enhanced WCS417-driven growth promotion and root colonization.
