aphid society is antinatalist due to the fact that their natural offspring are very dangerous and expensive to raise properly (it's actually illegal), so some rely on parasitic conversion instead. this often results in synthetics (shells) being converted to aphids, technically making them bioroids.

while aphids are slime humanoids, they are capable of (rather laboriously) growing their own exoskeletons depending on their work occupations!
some of them can look a bit more buglike as a result!
and some prefer their exoskeletons being fancier, hehe

the body gets more translucent and the core swells to an uncomfortable size
and it takes lots of effort for them to form eyes and other organs
