Lots of criticism of Nader’s 2000 presidential campaign but the broader philosophy of spending much more time attacking moderate Democrats than conservative Republicans that he pioneered long before that run totally dominates progressive thinking — an ethic of irresponsibility.

We're talking about an increase in the housing supply by ~2.5% (assuming ~3.3M households). The fact that we had to even vote on this, let alone that it was close, is an idictment of our city's governance.

One of the best examples of how Tolkien uses an understanding of scale, scope, and distance so well in his writing is that when Sauron tortures the information about the Ring out of Gollum, his first response is:

"Ok, but what the fuck is a Hobbit?"

In thinking about what rich nations owe the developing world, here’s something to keep in mind:

The average American emits more CO₂ in one week than an average person in low-income countries does in one year.

The truth is, turkey is a garbage bird, which is why we only eat it once a year. Just get a rotisserie chicken. Or better yet, don't eat any big bird.

Los Angeles' inability to upzone single family neighborhoods even in the face of a state mandate and the threat of losing Congressional seats and an acute housing shortage goes to show: Housing is the issue where progressive values crumble.

I think it’s 100% true that aesthetics do matter, buildings should be attractive, and even affordable ones can be pretty.

But also true that a pretty building with a nice facade isn’t going to get any less opposition from local NIMBYs.
I see a lot of anti architecture takes from real estate people and I’m sorry the exterior is how 90% of people interact with your building plus it leaves a lasting impact on the urban fabric as it changes over time. It’s actually very important!

Mandate? Trump is now under 50% in the popular vote with his margin ranking 44th out of 51 elections since 1824.

4 Democrats won Senate seats in states Trump carried—compared to zero in 16 and 20.

GOP poised for its smallest House majority since the U.S. had 50 states.
