The name of this month's moon is the #coldMoon and it's appropriate. #moonset

For this time of year it is going to be very cold tomorrow morning. If Boston reaches 10F it would tie the coldest in 90 years for the day. Easily coldest December 5th in over a generation. However, it's not super dangerous cold, been a lot colder during the heart of winter.

Allow yourself a couple of extra minutes this morning as there are slippery spots. Most towns have treated where necessary.

Here's my latest thinking on snow for Tuesday-wee hours Weds. Mostly rain in green. Could see some snow bands on back side of storm overnight Tuesday, so be aware of this in areas with mainly rain. Not surprised to see slick Weds AM travel as temps under 32F to start.

I will give update on snow possibilities this afternoon after full suite of 12Z models, but you can expect the rain area to expand even further west and north. This is a snow event for higher elevations, north/west 495 and especially Route 2. Rain event for most populated areas of greater Boston.

Here's my latest thinking on totals for Tuesday. 1st of the season can be tricky. Remember snow bands likely shift with data. During the day this time of year grass accumulates more than roads. Focus on idea of bands, not exact placement. Updates tomorrow. 🙏#Winter #snow

System on Tuesday it's very fast moving so it's in probably sometime the first half of the day Tuesday and the first half of Tuesday night. Time to figure out rough accumulation tomorrow afternoon after the 12z models.

Still too early for rain-snow line and accumulation predictions, but a signficant storm early season nor'easter is becoming more likely for parts of New England Tuesday PM-Weds.

I like when the crescent Moon is rising. It looks otherworldly.

Today's harvest.

Definitely becoming windy after the frontal passage later tonight into early tomorrow. Scattered power outages are possible but this is not going to be a widespread severe wind event.

One of the misunderstood aspects of these very intense hurricanes is that the most extreme winds actually do not occur very far from the center, especially in these tight storms. Andrew 1992 (Fla) was similar. Extreme/catastrophic damage where eye crosses. Much less even 50 miles away. #melissa

Hurricane #Melissa nearly perfectly symmetrical this morning. Just a buzz saw of thunderstorms around that eye. Nature creating a humantarian crisis. #Jamaica

It's going to pour for part of the morning commute. Depending on when you're going into work watch for some isolated urban Street flooding in places.

Narrow but potent line of showers and perhaps even an embedded thunderstorm moving into central Massachusetts this morning.

Different scenes and angles this morning. Beautiful #sunrise #Sunday.

Most of Massachusettes remains drier than average, but interestingly not in an official drought status. Cape is the driest.
October 3, 2025 at 9:31 AM
Showers and thunderstorm line has weakened but there are still some downpours. Threat of severe weather basically over.
September 6, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Active weather over Western Massachusetts will continue to press East the rest of the afternoon and into the first half of the evening. Some of these storms will be reaching severe category especially west of the coastline.

As this fall's drought expands, it's worth noting that the past decade has seen more drier than average falls, (similar to the first half of 20th century) and we are also trending warmer due to human induced warming. The combo of the two makes fall droughts more likely for now.
September 5, 2025 at 6:27 PM
It is quite humid today and will be more humid Saturday, but drier air takes over for Sunday. Map shows dew points falling Saturday night into Sunday morning from the 70ish to the 50s.
