We live in a cabin in the woods near-ish to Seattle and have the same issues. Road ices up, can't get out. We have a pile of food & essentials saved for just such times. We call it "The Hoard".

It's true. We never did until we lived in Finland for a few years. Now it's become an essential kitchen tool. Good for more than just tea.
