The good news is, that even in contexts with high relational mobility constraints, belonging to many groups was indirectly associated with lower depressive symptoms via social support.
February 28, 2024 at 3:01 PM
Looking at depressive symptoms as an outcome, we found that this effect emerges only in contexts with low relational mobility constraints, where people can leave the groups that they are not happy with.

Brilliant @miweissflog.bsky.social's first firs-authored paper on non-binary gender categorization is out in Sex Roles!
People heavily relied on facial features for gender categorization, but when face was ambiguous, used additional info like job & behavior to categorize.

Extremists also have a much stronger differentiation between “us” and “them”; while non-extremists write about "us" and "them" using similar value words (benevolence and self-direction), the extremists talk about power when referring to “them” and security and universalism when referring to “us”.
October 11, 2023 at 11:38 AM
Comparison with non-extremists suggest inter- and intrapersonal detachment among extremists: they talk less about concern for close others (benevolence), success (achievement), and pleasant arousal (stimulation), but more about broad societal issues (universalism) and desire for dominance (power).
October 11, 2023 at 11:35 AM
Extremists associated with different ideologies appeal to distinct sets of values in their texts - we can differentiate quite well between religious, ethnonationalist, anti-government, and left-wing terrorists based on the values they talk about.
