Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

If you don't follow this account, you're missing out on sharp, funny, and topical humor. This one is good, although it's missing the acerbic Mary Shelley.

Yesterday I wrote the below - today Will Richard debuted on the KIA Rookie Ladder.
After 11 games, Will is a. top ws/48 on the team; b. 2nd BPM on the team, and; c. 3rd VORP on the team.

Among all rookies, he's also a. 2nd in WS; b. 5th in ws/48; c. 6th in BPM, and ; d. 2nd in VORP.

He's in line for all-rookie if he keeps this up, and he might get considered for ROY.

need more use cases to overcome the main barrier to purchase:

"I already have a tiny brain I don't use - why do I need more?"
Little bottles of miniature brains.

Watch, hucksters will try to sell little bottles of miniature "brains". "I take brains as pills to increase my mental powers".

This is probably going to be useful research, actually.

Fair warning

If you're doing the "Convincing you to read my novel with the first few sentences." thread, you may also be convincing people to NOT read your novel. As a reader, so far I've had 1 "Sounds pretty good" and 2 "no way in Hell" reactions.

60 centers/power forwards have joined the NBA in the last 3 years. Of those, this year Quinten Post ranks

WS - T 6
WS/48 - 17
VORP - 6
BPM - 13
REB% - 25
BLK% - 24
PTs/Game - 18
MP/Game - 19
DRtg - T 12
ORtg - 23
USG% - 33

In other words right now he's easily in the top 3rd of those 60 players.

Looking at GSW lineups so far. It's still a little early to start drawing conclusions (give it 3 more games) but if the purpose is "win now" then QP and Will need more minutes - GP2, Buddy, and Al need less.

Yes, I know that ants produce formic acid and that one genus of ants is "formica". That's still no excuse for naming your giant ant-like monsters Formicans.

I was floored by that - someone should have countered that name immediately.

was doing a namecheck using search and found a copy of my first published fanzine for sale. It's been literally 50+ years since I've seen it. Not going to spend $30 for it, though.

I rarely make fun of names, but "Bovino" just sounds like some off-brand Lactaid(tm)

Every once in a while I remember that two guys I went to school with growing up in Washington State in the '60s separately became gold prospectors and got into a gunfight with each other over claim-jumping in Arizona.

God, a thousand times this.

That's the thing with dopamine being tied to task initiation - there's a set of gears that won't - CAN'T - engage in my brain, but none of my problems are with analysis.

I can be fully aware of all the necessary steps, and stressing about starting, and just... not.

For some reason I just thought about David Cargo. As a former governor of New Mexico, he moved to Oregon, lost an election and then moved back.

In his long career as a political loser he lost elections to Bill Richardson, Martin Chavez, Joe Montoya, Pete Domenici, and Jim Baca.

weresupials.

They differ from male kangaroos in formal clothes, who would be classed as menswearsupials.
Just randomly happened again. And it's not like I'm *reminded* of the idea. It emerges again and again from first principles.
"Kangaroos are so cool."
"But what if they also had super long arms and loped like a werewolf."
"Kangaroo werewolf. Fuck yeah"
An idea I keep coming back to:

Kangaroo werewolf

That's the entirety of the idea

It may be a traditional name combined with a phase, but you should probably avoid referring to a "waxing beaver moon" if you possibly can.
