So this is Delia Smith’s recipe- you can see calls for a pint of double cream & six large egg yolks, so the end result is incredibly rich and luscious. I like that she stabilises with cornflour, which if you’re nervous about egg marriage sauces like this it really helps & it’s such a small amount it

Well well well, if it isn’t the long awaited return of Marcus & Martinus hugging at Eurovision in 2024! They’re wearing their ‘futuristic streetwear inspired’ stage clothes in shiny metallic blue and wet look black pleather, black mesh, tactical clips and d rings out the wazoo. By all accounts they were extremely stressed at this point (Martinus, who was 22 at the time, had started having fits and vomiting when he showered which for an otherwise healthy 22 year old is a MASSIVE red flag; Marcus had become monosyllabic and called his mum in tears, begging to quit and go home) and had stopped speaking to each other, so this hug is genuinely quite touching in context. So there we go, no jokes, just affection.

Marcus & Martinus having a big ole brotherly hug on stage after the first performance of their entry for Sweden in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest semi final 1. Marcus is on the left, fact fans, & Martinus is on the right. They’re wearing metallic dark blue & shiny black pleather outfits with black mesh shirts, & Martinus is sporting a glove I would wear if I was sure I could pull it off (the look, not his glove.) They’re the most Norwegian looking Norwegians I have ever seen (save that guy on insta who does the “yoo hoo!” thing who is tan, blond, & has an eight pack) They’re more Norwegian than taco Friday, bunads & fenlår. They’re also monozygotic twins, so sometimes you look at them & it’s like one of those magic eye pictures: they’re identical! Wait, no they’re not! Anyway I’m going to see them in Islington. Me, some other elder queers & a bunch of teenage girls, in a room my SU would have been impressed to call a venue, by myself. So I am bricking it lads.

In other news, the Martstache saga has been overtaken by revelations made in their sommarprat (that’s summer talk in Swedish, not slang for someone who makes an idiot of themselves in July.) As it turns out, 1) they were scared sh*tless at Eurovision because of all the fuckery, 2) some German guys once drove to their home town & hung about there to try to kill them 3) they didn’t really like ‘Elektrisk’ all that much 4) they miss their late grandma (aww) 5) some fans really need to learn about boundaries. I mean like yesterday. Plus the Martstache has filled out so it’s not quite as sparse & scraggly, so people are coming around to it. I mean, it’s his face, our opinions mean shit but still. Anyway, love to all & especially the Martstache

So, Eurovision this year sounds like it was f’ing off the scale for the artists as well as the audience:

But it wasn't quite how we thought it would be at Eurovision this year, right Marcus? No, it wasn't that in terms of security, the concern over everything that was happening around, all the guards walking around with machine guns in Malmö. We told the press that we felt safe, that we felt safe, and things like that. But it wasn't like that. You didn't feel so safe. You felt small inside and afraid of what could actually happen. I was lying at night, and when I was going to sleep I thought "is something going to happen or not?" That thought was there. This year it was very different than it usually is. It was a very political year.
