“One person is an autocratic president of the university for decades” certainly wasn’t a flawless system but it’s clear that “admins hop from job to job scaling the career ladder by filling their CV with ‘accomplishments’ that are expensive burdens to the schools they leave behind” is even worse.

Say what you will about the flaws of faculty governance, but at least they believe in the mission.

If you're going to stretch your runtime to silent era European levels, you better deliver Conrad Veidt painted gold and not some CGI cobbled together at the last minute by underpaid animators who take the blame for studio cheapness, lack of vision and refusal to complete the goddamn script

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.

They didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened.

Watched “Babette’s Feast” today and I think this is my new Thanksgiving tradition. Also, the 3yo has a high tolerance for the Danish language.
