#AppleEvent invitations are out. You can watch the video Sept 9 at 1 PM ET. I’ll be in one of the extremely nice seats at the Steve Jobs Theater watching on a bigger screen.

I’m “on vacation” and won’t be covering the Google Pixel event live but I will have a full report posted today after the event.

I was chauffeuring my daughter to an appointment, a great time to unbox my newest handheld and get some mobile gaming in. Yes, Lenovo's new Legion Go S! (No, not that other one.) SteamOS is much easier to deal with than Windows on the Legion Go, but most of my games are on XBOX GamePass.

Shutting down for a couple of days for the Shavuot holiday; I'll be back Tuesday night with a 3,000 word report on Google vs. Apple in an Age of Integrated AI, which includes my takeaways from Google I/O and AndroidXR demos.

Obligatory badge and cufflink pic. #GoogleIO
Will attempt live coverage over on the former bird platform (still better for this sort of thing)

Unboxing and taking Anker's new Soundcore Liberty 5 earbuds out on the road. (They only had black when I asked; they also come in white, navy, and apricot.) ANC is good but not the best I've tested but strong bass, long battery life, and at $129 they're a good value.

One of the best Android tablets is getting an upgrade: the OnePlus Pad 3 is due out June 5 now with a Snapdragon 8 Elite and excellent multitasking software and phone integration. Preorders get two of the pen, keyboard case, or the folio case. No pricing yet.

Heading to #GoogleIO out of LGA (~an hour farther), in middle seats, with a long connection, all to avoid EWR. #ATCfail

Into the grand tradition of smartphones cobranding (and occasionally co-developing) with camera and audio companies, add Nothing and KEF. I wouldn't think KEF's excellent concentric driver technology can translate directly from speakers to earbuds, but we'll see if this is more than just branding.

(I don’t have Surface cufflinks but I did wear my Surface socks.)

Microsoft announced #NewSurfacePCs today in slightly smaller 12” sizes and smaller price points but still strong design, performance, and battery life thanks to the Snapdragon X Plus chips inside. I went to Brooklyn to get hands on and lots of AI demos. I’m a fan of the keyboards and 3:2 displays.

Shout out to UAG for sending over a Scout case. It looks bulky but actually makes the Pixel 9a more comfortable to hold.
May 5, 2025 at 5:26 PM
I also asked Verizon to provide an eSIM for the iPhone 16e, so we should be able to get some real-world mid-tier modem performance comparisons. (As an aside, aren't these just the two cleanest looking phones on the market?)
May 2, 2025 at 5:55 PM
Google sent over the Pixel 9a and Verizon hooked me up with connectivity, so we're going to spend some time in the Pixel ecosystem again ahead of Google I/O. I miss the telephoto from the Pro, but I love the size and design.

Nothing says its budget design brand, CMF, sold over 4 million devices in its 1st year. The new CMF Phone 2 Pro is being sold in 40 countries, starts at $250, OLED display, no ads/bloatware, semi-modular design, 3 years OS upgrades, and a Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Pro

I'm not sure how OnePlus has more clarity on tariffs than the rest of us, but the company has locked in on $350 for the OnePlus Watch 3 going forward. I've been using it for months; it has the best battery life of any WearOS watch I've tested, and it's a great value.

Sightful's Spacetop for Windows is now available for purchase. I've been following the company since before launch when it was building hardware; they have since pivoted to providing the software layer for XR on top of Windows. 1/3

After spending the afternoon crafting an advisory for a client on tariff strategy, I'm detoxing by testing these Sennheiser 550 headphones. Clamping force is stronger than I prefer; decent bass, smooth midrange, incredibly clear separation and treble.

Nintendo hasn't gotten me review hardware in a while, so I may need to buy a Switch 2. In an era of big PC handhelds and dedicated mobile gaming chips from Qualcomm, I'm curious to see how Nintendo's focus on content/experience translates to the larger form factor.

IntelVision kicking off. Lip-Bu Tan has been CEO for two weeks, so he's starting off with his resume.

I spent the day yesterday hanging out with autonomous robots from Yarbo, a US-based company that makes modular robots for snow blowing, mowing, trimming, towing, leaf blowing, and more. Great conversation with the CEO; so much engineering goes into these for use in the real world.

Varjo is making some announcements around high-end enterprise XR today

I'm running a laptop test lab today, benchmarking four different silicon platforms across four OEMs. Interesting results! Battery testing is going to take a lot longer.

HUGE shout-out to @xreal-global.bsky.social The One XR glasses, which enabled me to securely take an extremely private NDA zoom call right on the #MWC2025 show floor. Maybe not the use case you think of for smart display glasses, but it worked flawlessly.
March 4, 2025 at 10:38 AM
Running around #MWC2025, writing up 5 different embargoed things that I will post well after the embargoes lift, taking pics from the show floor I haven't uploaded yet, and still finishing up my full analysis of @amazon Alexa+ from last week. Also meetings. LOTS of meetings.
