I believe Toronto has a substantial district cooling setup that uses the cool water in Lake Ontario...a good precedent for Seattle.

The club goes back to the 70s, with a coach that played for them in the 80s. And rely heavily on their developmental system. They are can legitimately claim they've "built" the club.

I figured when they sold Leo (TAM guy), they would have enough room to sign another TAM guy. The only addition since (Taylor) has a pretty small cap hit. I've been assuming they could pretty much do a max TAM guy with that last slot, no? Using cap space + TAM (since you can't use GAM for TAM guys).

Ahh, good to know. So its probable they are using ~$700k TAM to buy down Julio to $150k...cuz why wouldn't they? That TAM is use or lose.

Sorry, should have @thenorthendpodcast.com you!

They have almost ALL their TAM...it's honestly bizarre. Can u clarify how much of the salary can be bought down w/ TAM? The rules say down to "or below" the max budget charge. So they could conceivably by a player all the way down?
July 1, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Isn't the answer that this guy is a cheap player? Going off the Northend Podcasts #s, they have $400k to spend, and 2 senior slots and 2 int slots.

Stats are propped up by 1) Stuver & 2) pragmatic tactics. Julio/BHI are solid but can't play a high line. A more dominant presence at CB is a force magnifier - with and w/o the ball - and is needed for ATX to compete for trophies. They can get 3 TAM guys in July...and you can't have only 3 CBs.

Heard the pod (🤟), hard disagree on going w/ CB depth. This team needs Gab 2.0...almost every team has TAM CBs for a reason (the best have 2 or 3). Wait til July for Euro-based free agent & use all of the $ on salary. Leo wasn't really TAM level. They can get a MUCH higher profile CB. #TrustRodo.

With Leo's sale, only TAM $ is Julio's small hit (I imagine a small bit of Leo's TAM applies). ATX prob has $2mil in TAM left to spend.

The trick is the the Max Budget hit. They have Leo's max spot now, but only $570k GAM + Leo's sale ($400k?). That 2 max slots worth! 3 if they wait to summer!!
March 24, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Agreed. Good news is they likely have $2mil+ to spend on final 2 roster slots. Consider that summer signings are for half season (half cap hit), they could add some serious talent in summer.

Just using your spreadsheet (thx for that, btw!) seems like the majority of the spent $2.5mil is to pay down sub TAM level guys. Need to see official salaries, but they have very little fees to pay down (just Svatok as others are DP, U22, or TAM).
March 8, 2025 at 1:48 AM
Seems it has to be in the top of that range. Julio's salary is barely TAM and no fee to pay off. Leo's salary is below TAM, and his fee/4 years is less than 500k. Those are the only considerations, no?

I was wondering about #3... good to see the #s, that's a pretty big deal actually.

Lol, thanks for taking Evander from the West! I don't think you will like the tradeoff.

Already loaded into my Zotero for an upcoming project. Thanks for sharing!

FYI, the NHGIS data should be up, either way. It's also an easier interface and had other value-added elements.
February 6, 2025 at 1:09 PM
They should just give Cucho a few 💰💰💰, but if not Evander is pretty awesome.
February 3, 2025 at 5:48 PM
They could take Evander before Cinci does...or even Acosta.

If he can't have an impact at Houston, where the tactics actually suit him, than he is not a Top 5 player. No reason he can't go to Top 5 straight from MLS, we see more of it every year, and at 21 he still has a few years to make the move.
February 2, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Yeah, I'm excited to watch him in Houston, it's so much better to keep him in the league vs a lateral (or downward) Euro move. If he hits big in Houston, he can still move on.
February 1, 2025 at 8:41 PM
It's only for 50% of his rights, which isn't typical. A 10-20% sell on is more typical, I think. So his value is more like $4mil.
February 1, 2025 at 8:28 PM
300 min or 3000, obvi the latter is better. Another solid year at Louisville, then is clearly ready for next level. Louisville has sold to both Europe and MLS. Maybe this summer a MLS team is desperate for GK and makes a move, but said move is less likely if he isn't showing progress.
January 31, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Sitting as a backup does him no good, and Louisville is among the best non-MLS teams, has developed players before. This makes sense for all.
