If either or both of the national guard soldiers who were shot in DC today die, the Washington DC District Attorney should charge Donald Trump with felony murder.

Per my post earlier today, a high school friend’s husband is dealing two two different forms of (highly treatable, thankfully) cancer which complicates the plan and, of course, increases cost. If you can help out, please do. gofund.me/55ab08679

There is a TON wrong with the US medical system, but yesterday my 94 year old dad had a lifesaving procedure done on his aortic artery at MGH in Boston and he was chipper as could be a few hours later.

You know it’s bad when you’re reading political news to distract you from the anxiety the rest of your life is causing.

@ chuckschumer: you feckless waste of space, please stop referring to yourself as a leader and retire already.

Dick Cheney, as Vice President, was a pox on the world. He was no longer a danger, but it’s a shame he never faced any consequences for the misery he caused.

Trump tearing down the White House is just such an obvious metaphor that if you encountered it while reading a novel, you’d call it lazy writing.

I’d have paid good money to be in the room when Trump found out that the Nobel Peace Prize went to a Venezuelan woman. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c1...
Nobel Peace Prize 2025: Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado wins
Nominations closed in January but US President Donald Trump had led a public campaign to win the award.

OF COURSE work on the $200 million monstrosity of a ballroom will continue during the shutdown. That’s WAY more important that sending out Social Security payments or paying soldiers. www.goodmorningamerica.com/news/live-up...
White House ballroom construction to continue through shutdown, official says
Vice President JD Vance, while speaking at a White House press briefing, said that he does not think the government shutdown will be long.

This is not satire. Nor is it a screen grab from Idiocracy.

There’s a ridiculous Powerball jackpot again—like $1.7 billion. The odds of winning around something like 1 in 300,000,000. I’m still going to play because wtf. If I won, I could start a charitable foundation and spend the rest of my life helping worthy orgs do their work and that’s a nice dream.

Katrina, 20 years later. It’s hard for me to fathom how it feels so recent.

I’m probably making a mistake by listening to Strangeways, Here We Come Again after a day on my own.
Which is it that listening to this kind of stuff feels like wiggling a loose tooth, and is just as seductive?

“We’re gonna get the drug prices down. Not 30% or 40%, which would be great. Not 50% or 60%. No, we’re gonna get them down 1,000%, 600%, 500%, 1,500%,” Trump said at a Republican dinner. “Numbers that are not even thought to be achievable.”

So, good news: we’re going to get paid to take drugs.

I’ve been spending some time today wondering what would be included in a new Declaration of Independence. It strikes me that many of the Framers’ concerns would need to be repeated.

The single most important qualification for employees in a fascist government is loyalty to the leader. Competence is a distant concern.

On a walk with a friend, we took comfort that 1. Trump wont live forever, 2. There doesn’t appear to be anyone in the Magaverse who can unite the rest of the party behind them, and 3. Their movement requires loyalty to Trump over competency, which will contribute to their failure. We hope.

I’m curious what building a resistance outside the US would look like when/if it becomes unsafe to stay. I know this has worked in other countries. Resources, please?
