The coat of arms is finally carved and here it is with the first coat of finish applied. Now you can see the elements of the shield that tell the family stories, like the lion rampant, the stone castle, the Viking ship, and the hand with nine stirrups around it. #gvmstudio

I’m getting close to completing this commission carving. The family wanted their traditional coat of arms.

I trimmed the sides down to let me have better access to undercut the acanthus leaves and make the carving jump off the background.

Do you even read bro? I carved a few of these book spreader thing-a-ma-jigs in walnut. We like using them. Not recommended for Kindle or iPad 😉

Making progress carving the acanthus leaves on the right side now. The wood is walnut and it is hard but cuts very well with super sharp tools. #gvmstudio #coatofarms #heraldry #clanmacneil

I made a couple of pickleball paddles out of scraps and off cuts. They take about 45 minutes to make including spray varnish. They only weigh about 20 grams more than an expensive carbon paddle. Now I just need to learn how to play. But I have been working on my pregame routine 😉

I’m carving a coat of arms for a family. I love doing these kinds of art and making someone happy.

Back to carving this coat of arms for a client. I’ve been carving for over 35 years and the best part of my art is making people happy.
