For Varha, someone who spent many, many years convinced she was completely unlovable & a relationship wasn't even going to be part of her life, this sure is a list of names lmfao
Cid: Varha did hook up with this man in ARR (alcohol was involved) and did have a crush on him prior to that. Unfortunately, this incident brought her "feels unworthy of affection & is just generall very weird about relationships for a lot of reasons" hangups out in full force. Did not stay to cuddle afterwards, instead proceeded to leave the room uncomfortably and have an exitistential crisis about it (while using an also-drunk Thancred as a sounding board). They're friends now, and he's not bitter about it since it was pretty clear it wasn't going to work. Thancred: Only sort of counts here. Really early on, there was a very brief period of tipsy flirting that led to absolutely nothing & at this point, neither of them looks at the other person as more than a friend. Moenbryda: Thought she was really cool when they first met, got along a little too well with her shortly after. Moenbryda picked her up as a joke once with 0 effort & it made Varha short circuit. Probably not recipriocated, but she didn't know her long enough to determine anything definitively. Hauechefant: Obvious enough that she picked up on it, and obvious enough to make her skittish. He was too nice to her, and that freaked her out. He probably would have been cool with just keeping things friendly, but being so close to the Cid-breakdown, her avoidance tactics were on full display here. Aymeric: One-sided (and not super intense either) on his end, completely oblivious on hers. Her lack of response to any of his attempted advances buried this one, with the final nail in the coffin being her entirely missing the fact that the meal they shared was supposed to be a date. This comes up in conversation like two years later and he actually finds it very funny. She doesn't (and didn't) have feelings for him like that, but she does feel kind of bad for being an idiot. G'Raha: Lasted for maybe an hour after speaking to her post-Crystal Tower. She is so very not what he thought she would be. She's got an almost uncomfortable intensity to her when they meet again on the First, and a roughness to her personality that the books clearly left out. He still likes her as a friend (when they get rid of the light poisoning, anyway), but it's so evident that they'd never work, the fantasies just sort of wither away and die. (Bonus) Ryne: Not really a crush as much as Ryne's gay awakening. Watching Varha in the field and seeing the way she'd put Thancred in check absolutely altered her brain chemistry & gave her the "oh, I like women" realization. Seeing Varha standing next to Gaia evolved that realization into "oh, I like women who look like that."

Hades should have known that he'd been had the moment he heard the door to Hythlodaeus' office lock behind him. He'd been reluctant to join his lovers for lunch, and perhaps rightfully so; they clearly had no intention of having any sort of meal that afternoon. He's cornered, backed up against the edge of a desk and flanked by two warm bodies with wandering hands. Hythlodaeus occupies his own mouth, tongue insistent against Hades'. He can't focus too much on that without Arsinoë threatening to steal it away. Her clever fingers manage to loosen up the collar of his robe just enough to grant her access to his collarbone, which is currently being decorated with open-mouthed kisses that will eventually turn into bites. "Tread lightly," he admonishes with a hiss. It loses some of its acidity with how breathless it sounds after he manages to tear himself away from Hythlodaeus. The day is only half over, dammit, and he's still going to be expected to make an appearance at his office after this, and he knows what he looks like after these two get to have their way with him, and— Arsinoë laughs against his flesh, breath rolling over the moist skin, and Hythlodaeus adds a bright "Not to worry—we'll be sure to handle you with care, dearest Hades," in a tone that suggests he absolutely should be worried about such a thing. His lovers exchange a look, and he suspects that he may very well end up having to call out for the rest of the day (almost as if that was the intent from the start).
