This is also just laughably untrue?? I know plenty of women who are *more* likely to romantically or sexually pursue a guy (or any other potential partner) who splits the bill, because splitting a bill on a date is a sign you’re not weirdly patriarchal and controlling about who pays for things.

• “No, we can’t possibly allow you, student with [disability impacting navigation], to get access to your dorm a day early so you can learn the building layout when there aren’t 500+ students moving in.”
• “No, we can’t possibly allow you, student with [disability impacting navigation], to get access to your dorm a day early so you can learn the building layout when there aren’t 500+ students moving in.”
So, say, you have a Blind student who needs Braille transcription and a reader/scribe for tests but that’s *expensive*. Much cheaper and easier to give them 2x time and large print for tests – they can muddle through (expending 5x effort of a sighted student) & it’ll do *enough* to pass scrutiny.

“Isn’t that wildly illegal?” yeah it’s a gross 504 and often ADA violation but if you’re a disabled student who’s already dealing with school/disability/maybe work and extracurriculars, you probably don’t have that fight in you. Plus raising a fuss gets you branded a troublemaker.
What I am saying is that disability services offices (who are doing their best on shoestring budgets) are incentivized to offer all students who qualify for accommodations the easiest, cheapest to implement accommodations, even if a given student actually needs much different accommodations.

I admittedly do not have the energy nor the will to dive into the legal “justification” in this decision, but it’s indicative of a deep social rot that the justification in these decisions is anything besides “schools have the right to enforce policies to create a safe learning environment.”
