Today’s books and beer (for size comparison) - Bolaño’s ANTWERP (in a convenient pocket size) and K-PUNK, the collected writings of Mark Fisher from 2004-16 (maybe kangaroo-pocket-sized, if even), plus a Clean Press West Coast IPA from Fast Fashion.

I am very annoyed to have found that I am more in touch with my creativity, think more deeply about my art, am more excited to get back to my projects, and am much more positive towards my work, finding it to be of value, when I *do* write every day. Highly annoying that consistency wins yet again.

Despite @wnwagner.bsky.social telling me I should throw this novel away (all context removed for the sake of a good story 😂) I’m going to give it one more shot. You can see from the notes on the cover what my goals are here.

Remembering when I posted this as an example of some of the nonsense that comes out of my daily pages practice. Normally it’s just complaining about the day before, but sometimes weird stuff comes up. I use it as sprinting practice for stories - start with a sentence or image and just play it out.
Text saying: Toe Story When my siblings and I were growing up, my stepfather used to tell us that we hadn't been born but instead were carved out of toes. Maybe that was his way of telling us we weren't all that to him. Maybe it was a way of keeping our mother to himself. In any event, the story he liked to tell was that our real father was a giant foot out in the middle of the forest. A foot so big, that the leg it was attached to reached up through the tree canopy and disappeared from view. It was a man's foot, most likely - you could guess by the coarse hairs as thick as boot laces on the top of it and each toe. Where was the other foot, my littlest sister would ask? Well, Piggy-that's what our stepfather called her-I don't know. I wasn't there. Anyway, to cut the story short, he told us that my mother had gone out into the woods one day, foraging for the sweet, ear-shaped mushrooms that grow deep in the most shaded part, when she came across the foot. As the oldest son, I don't pretend to understand the hearts of girls or my mother, either, but she was so taken with the foot-according to my stepfather -that she took her scavenging knife and cut off the toes, one by one. Then she carved dull and goofy faces into the pads of them-his words-and brought them back to raise as her children. Poor stupid toes, he would say. They didn't know any better and until nowadays you almost couldn't tell. Not even the toes themselves. Now, with that, you are probably imagining there were five of us. There were not. There were only four-myself, Mark, the oldest; my brother Homer next, who was thinner but just a hair or two taller; then a drop in size drastically down to my quiet sister who stepfather called The Nun and then my smallest sister, Piggy, with a face like a clenched fist. I don't know which of us starting to calling our "missing" member in the middle "Roast Beef," but it quickly stuck. I do remember, though, it was the Nun who decided we should go and look for him. A messy handwritten version of what was in the first picture.

One thing I loved about WorldCon is how much of the world was there. After attending an awesome talk on the New Weird in Latin America by Mallory Craig-Kuhn, I picked up this book by @ramirosanchiz.bsky.social and, yep, this is my kind of thing. I might never have otherwise heard of him!
