Progress-pilled. Growth of science, technology, industry, and the economy is the key societal lever to unlock more human flourishing.
I dub this the Derek Smart-ification of wider culture

I find this other Scott Sumner quote explains why so many have trouble understanding this

Politics giving real ‘old man lost his horse’ vibes today. Democratic gerontocrats once again cucking themselves before an easily defeated opponent. Which lights the fire that brings in the fighting spirit that will defeat MAGA. Which platforms disastrously bad left wing populist ideas. Who can say🤷

This PMCism extends to govt — the exception being our current demagogue, and another exception for normal leaders acting swiftly in response to crisis (fires, bridge collapse)

I don't know what the answer is, but the past tells us what is possible. If only we would learn from it and do better

This is going to sound weird, but this insight didn't crystalize in my mind until I ran afoul of this Imperator: Rome mechanic 😂

So Indian hate has been “normalized” again. And I've been on the internet since forever so I know how it used to be. But after the woke years I kinda forgot what it felt like. Ran across this random blog post from 2010 and the casual, over-the-top racism made me lol

Say what you will about the ‘backwards’ Middle Ages but the role of regent is a far better model for modern parenting than the 20th century norms of obedience and patriarchy

One of these is a colossal waste of human talent. The other is psychologically traumatizing. I don't know which is worse by utilitarian measures but I do know that I have no interest in finding out how much psychic damage I can take

I don't take Bannon's third term stuff that seriously—but like, it's over 1% likely they'll try, right?

It's remarkable that the likely conduit for that strategy doesn't even appear on this long list of candidates

Abundance alone is a losing agenda. It doesn't throw a bone to the populists. But what then? Jobs are plentiful. Free healthcare is financially ruinous. Education already over subsidized.

If only there was some redistributive program that addressed the #1 issue with perceived income inequality 🤔

Now for the big guns:

Want a Broadway production (hagiography) of the Trump story performed at the Kennedy Center? Restore TPS and help pass legislation for asylum processing reform

Want naming rights to the White House (term limited)? Extend ACA subsidies
