May Peterson (You) Just now Hi everyone, I've been going over our money situation, and here's where I'm at: I still owe about $1300 in back taxes, and I miscalculated my website renewal fee, which is about $360. There's a $240 bill I thought was going to be covered by insurance, too, but seems not to have been. If I keep my website active this month, I'm definitely going to be short on rent. What makes all of this so tough is that in addition to being functionally unable to work for most of the summer, I was really hoping to be reimbursed by now for the nearly $3000 that we lost earlier this year due to a billing error. But I still haven't seen any of that money, and am worried now we may never get it back. I'm setting a somewhat ambitious longer-term crowdfund goal of about $2450 for now, with the hope that I can raise enough to make ends meet this month and then start paying off the rest. Thankfully, my mental health seems to be slowly but steadily improving, which means I should be able to bring in more money next month, but it's been a rough time getting there. Any donations of any size would be hugely helpful right now. You all have been positively heroic in helping my partner and me keep a roof over our heads, and in being a light of hope for me while I've worked my way out of suicidal depression. Bear God also wants you all to know how sincerely and deeply they appreciate everything you've done for us. As always—my blessings are on you, now and forever.

I am so sick of getting comments like about my sexuality.

It’s transphobic, homophobic, and misogynistic and I’ve tolerated a LOT of this kind of attitude from other queer and trans people. Utterly ridiculous.

Hi all, Thank you so much for all the help you've given us recently, it's made a huge difference in allowing me to deal with my poor mental health. We need help with another unexpected goal—a surprise car repair! Thankfully the bill wasn't huge, and we think some of it will be covered by insurance, but it's about $450 that we're going to be missing for a few weeks at least. We also need additional help covering some medications that are particularly expensive right now, as well as a few other basics that might be a little hard to cover over this month while my income has been poor. From the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (2nd edition)—really insightful passage about C-PTSD and how unique it is to the individual that has it, and how much it mimics and includes features of other Dxes.
Comorbidity CPTSD, if it were more widely recognized, would result in a significant reduction of spurious or artifactual comorbidity. Apparent comorbidity is perhaps the single most striking characteristic of CPTSD. There are few rules dictating how a given adult with compromised personal development will manifest this history in his or her subsequent symptomatology. Unlike the more solid syndromes of schizophrenia and bipolar dis-order, a patient with significantly compromised development, manifest or covert, may present with some combination of overt or subtle symptoms from a wide variety of dis-orders. These include depressive, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, posttraumatic, disso-ciative, somatoform, eating, sleep-wake, sexual, gender, impulse-control, substance-related, and personality disorders. The astute reader will note that this covers almost the entire nosology, apart from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and organic brain syndromes. To repeat, there are few rules. Almost no one will have symptoms from all categories, but anyone with symptoms from two or three categories ought to be questioned about all the others. What results may not be strict diagnostic comorbidity—a very ill patient with very many symptoms may not have enough in any one category to yield a firm "diagnosis" —but it will result in a wider appreciation of the patient's suffering and its roots. With such a patient, the primary temptation may be to identify the disorder one prefers to treat, while turning a "blind eye" to the rest. Treatment focused on the trauma itself, on the other hand, may ameliorate symptoms across these diagnostic groupings.

Hi all, It's tough to ask again but I need more help making ends meet this month. I've been getting treatment for debilitating depression lately and I had hoped to be much more recovered from it by now than I am. I'm . . . not sure what I'm going to do. Every single day is so hard, and I know I'm not currently able to keep up with the demands of my life. If I can raise about $800 for now, that should help us cover our bills and get through the beginning of the month, but I can only hope my health is better enough by then to work more consistently. LGBT organizations and the D.C. government to get to the root of the gender-based violence in southeast D.C. She's run multiple focus groups and is currently working on training members of the community where the violence is most prevalent to serve as ambassadors to bridge the transgender and cisgender communities and help initiate dialogue between straight, cis men and straight trans women. One of the most telling discoveries from the project was, as described by one interviewee, the perception that "transgender is just a longer word for gay." For these young men there is often no difference between a cis gay man who is violating the codes of masculinity by behaving in a feminine manner (choosing a male partner is viewed by many as feminine behavior) and a straight trans woman who has completed surgical and hormonal treatment. These finding are consistent with the nascent literature available on trans-affirming childhood gender development, which suggests gender identity arises early in life and gender performance quickly aligns with authentic gender when affirmed within their social environments (by self, parents, school, others, etc.) (Gülgöz et al., 2019). In contrast, nonbinary participants did not have the language or understanding of gender options outside of male/female, having no schema of nonbinary gender available to them. Seemingly connected to this lack of clear schema, nonbinary childhood experiences of gender dysphoria were less common, as they did not feel strongly that their authentic gender did not align with their socialized gender. For nonbinary participants, childhood was often a time during which they started to recognize a disinterest or disconnection with their socialized gender, but the gendered nature of the dysphoria was less clear. Their gender performance was not fully aligned with their socialized gender and would often be understood by themselves and/or their parents as a prodromal “queerness” in which they were seen as “tom boys” or effeminate boys, but not to the point of themselves identifying as a gender other than their socialized gender. This is a new finding in the sense that this is a new articulation of nonbinary experience; however, previous work that focused on “gender nonconforming” youth, which has been previously noted as a type of clumsy reference to transgender and/or nonbinary people, has described this unclear identification between gender and sexual identity (Richards et al., 2016; Toomey et al., 2013).

I'm reading an interesting paper on binary and nonbinary trans youth and this paragraph stood out to me.

Violence and Health in Transgender and Nonbinary Youth Transgender and nonbinary youth face some of the highest rates of violence and poorest health outcomes of any known population of youth. These outcomes are highly interconnected, with minority stress theory suggesting individuals who are victimized due to their marginalized, identity-based status experience reduced health outcomes in response to violence (Lefevor et al., 2019; Testa et al., 2015). Similarly, traumatic stress theory suggests similar health outcomes for victims of violence (Finkelhor, 2008; Meyer, 2012). This reduction in health outcomes would be troubling by itself, but transgender youth are not only more likely to experience violence, they are also less likely to have access to affirming healthcare and social support systems that may otherwise mitigate some of the effects of violence (Budge et al., 2013, 2014; Connolly et al., 2016). Further, the nascent literature on transgender youth experiences of violence and health has focused primarily on adolescence and young adulthood, there are few data on violence and health amongst transgender children and no data that suggests any developmental stages during which violence and health disparities become evident (Connolly et al., 2016; Gray et al., 2012). The little data that do exist in these fields use samples that are heavily weighted toward a white racial experience and rarely identify class or disability status of participants, limiting intersectional considerations of BIPOC, disabled, and/or low-income youth.
