My interest in Submarines started with Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas and Harper Goff's Nautilus design.

On August 3, 1958, the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, became the first vessel to reach the North Pole by travelling beneath the Arctic ice cap.
by Commander William R. Anderson & Clay Blair

Watching/reading Ice Station Zebra set me up to read this again

Reading ICE STATION ZEBRA by Alistair MacLean
I also enjoyed the film. I enjoyed it a lot. Casting was good & I really enjoyed Patrick McGoohan, who dominated the screen.

The under-ice visuals were very good, while the aircraft visuals were iffy at best.

Exactly, like the Klingon BC.
Matt Jefferies did some moonlighting during ST. His concept designs show a boxy personnel carrier; his rounded design was far beyond the ability of Gene Winfield to build. They had 30 days to build it, so he suggested a boxy one, then gave it to Thomas Kellogg to draw

I spent a little time trying to figure out the engineering layout. I favour the engineering area being more central. I placed the Deuterium and Matter supply in the lower level, where we see the few hull markings on the Enterprise model. My model here is 1311.5ft, though 1341ft would be better

While the ship's lack of colour could be simply because this ship was not ready, its launch was rushed to meet V'ger

On the colourless bridge, the coloured uniforms look garish with the TMP design. I think the Admiral 2 uniform colour system for all would have worked, variation perhaps for departments
