My non-original hot take is actual face time with my coworkers is actually valuable. The replies to the post clearly didn't read or want to hear other takes on being in office.

@profgalloway.com has been talking about this topic for a while too re: working relationships and being in person.
Entirely remote work means less training and opportunity for advancement, especially for younger workers, new research suggests. Here's what economists say.

The T’s dedication to slow zone removal has led to pretty dramatic ridership improvements. It’s a model that should be emulated elsewhere.

What if — hear me out — instead of hiring a person to only plow in front of a single business, we hired them to go down the entire block….and the next…and the next…

We could even have a small fleet to cover whole swaths of the city. #PlowTheSidewalks
But *how* will they #PlowTheSidewalks? With what technology?

This week I decided to pull out my grandma's recipe for potstickers and make them for Thanksgiving. They turned out well and got a stamp of approval from Mom and brother.

Such classic gaslighting it's an instructive moment. The question is not whether generic is better or worse, it's that a list with more expensive brand names is not the same as a list with cheaper generics. Perverting that truth into an attack on those calling it out is Manipulation 101.
Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

We need to expand the tollway network.

Not expand the tollways themselves, but rebuild current free expressways using toll revenues and then turn them into tolled highways.

Ultimately the authority should be rolled into NITA so all of our major regional transportation investments are coordinated.

All you need to know about Chicago is this: we put our literal shit into the Chicago River, which flowed into Lake Michigan, which is where we got our drinking water, and where a lesser city would’ve said “let’s stop throwing our shit into the river” we reversed the flow of the goddamn river instead

Long, but informative thread
The Epstein bill is headed to Trump’s desk as we speak.

So, what now? Well, a lot of panic, it seems. I have seen every single possible worst case scenario all over social media in the last hour, so let’s go through this step by step. My only request, read the whole thing before commenting.

Looks like the city needs some new revenue sources. May I recommend...
Using IL SOS data and public curb weight data, if Chicago changed its residential permit charge from $25 to a weight-based system, it could bring in an additional $151-167MM/year when

>2500lbs = $25
2.5k-2.99k = $40
3k-3.49k = $62.5
3.5k-3.99k = $75
4k-4.49k = $105
4.5-4.99k = $160
5k+ = $200

Harlem Avenue could be one of the most productive city-suburban bus routes ever if we ever stopped arbitrarily designing bus routes around city/suburban boundaries
Do you ever think about how the bus route that connects with the MD-W, UP-W, Green Line, Blue Line, and BNSF, and also is almost always a Top-5 Pace ridership route, ends in a random parking lot instead of the CTA rail terminal and international airport three miles away? Because I do, often

Should go further: all bus routes should be number [letter (optional)] and all rail lines should be letter-number. Can continue to colloquially call the CTA’s lines by color but on maps they’d be “L1”, “L2”, etc. Worth noting that Metra’s recent line renaming efforts would fit into this scheme as-is
Don't get mad but we should redo the bus numbers. The way they did the 70, 72, 73, 74, 76, 77, 78, 80, 81, and 84 is so intuitive (tells you how far north you are).

In normal times, it would be a major scandal for the President to direct his AG to criminally investigate his political opponents to deflect from his own involvement in a major scandal — and for the AG to immediately announce she is doing it. The Epstein scandal and cover up just got even bigger.
