Violent rhetoric is not only strongly embedded in our cultural expression, it is an extremely well-known phenomenon that people consistently rate violent rhetoric used against them and people they like as significantly more severe than violent rhetoric used against people they dislike.

Happy 423 years of us! 🎉 📚

The Bodleian Libraries opened for the first time on 8 November 1602...

This means, we're older than the refracting telescope (1608), the publication of Shakespeare's Hamlet (1623) and Sir Isaac Newton's apple (1666)! 😅

For anyone who is like “the creature is also named Frankenstein”; Mary Shelley went to see a play version of Frankenstein and was tickled that they listed the creature as “———“ in the dramatis personae:

“this nameless mode of naming the unnameable is rather good”

please note, in the world of music, we have had what is called generative music for a long while
this is not genAI
this is setting up a complex web of synth modules where everything controls everything else
usually built by humans with purpose and allowed to go nuts
generative music good. genAI bad

Extinct Birds Bonus Round 5: Atlantic Puffin

I decided to extend the extinct bird drawtober by doing a little bonus round of birds that are locally extinct in Germany as a way of highlighting the importance of local conservation work.

We've still got Teruyo Nogami, Kurosawa's assistant-turned-documentarian, and who is 98.

We've got Kyōko Kagawa at 93, youngster Akira Terao at 78.

But for *STARS* - actors who led those hard-hitting dramas and trend-setting genre films of the golden age - this is it. This is the end. RIP Nakadai.
Farewell to one of brightest stars of the golden age of Japanese cinema: Nakadai Tatsuya, who starred in some of history's greatest films, has passed away at the age of 92. Major roles included those in Ran, Hara Kiri, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Kagemusha, The Human Condition, and many more.

Getting pretty freaked out that I won’t be able to pay my mortgage this month, so all my lovingly hand painted original landscapes are now 60% off the listed price AND I will ship free within the US.
Help a gal out, please.

I don't remember if Follow Friday is a thing here - but follow Postcard from the Past - the juxtaposition of often bland imagery but intriguing snapshots of lives from just one sentence is hauntology at its purest. Or is that surrealism?

Semi-related, does anyone have any suggestions for outlets, channels, etc. that are interested in more underground, alternative, side of games?

I looked fairly thoroughly in the first few years, but there could be new ones in the years since I looked and could have always missed some initially.
With this drive I am opening up pitches for writing about the games and developers that have contributed to Indiepocalypse.

It's $200 for ~2 pages(~1k words ) with the only requirement be that it be about past contributors. (luckily there's ~700 of them)
