But we need to realize that *genuinely* centering corruption is not a tactic. It’s fucking crusade.

It means running against institutions.

It means putting the mission over partisanship.

It means you have to *use* power to deliver.

It means you have to hold people accountable.

I can't remember the precise wording but someone on here said that the Republican threat to expose Bill Clinton too isn't so much a threat as it is a "buy one, get one free" promotion.
"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Down with the sex predators, wherever they are.

Yes. At some point in my Ph.D., I first panicked that I didn't publish anything yet, and then, I decided to resist this pressure. Because I haven't finished my thesis yet. I don't mean the physical thesis, but my original work. I'm in the final months of my study, and only now I'm ready to publish+
“It’s time for the ‘publish more’ mindset to perish.”

Mandy Hill, writing in the Financial Times, calls for reform in academic publishing:

"Hiring professors with PhDs is meaningless if administrators are the ones deciding what gets taught,” he said. “Faculty will start asking not, ‘Is this accurate?’ but ‘Will this get me in trouble?’ That’s not education, it’s risk management.”
#HigherEd
Leonard Bright, president of the Texas A&M Chapter of the AAUP said faculty were not consulted on the proposed changes, which he called “a direct violation” of their expertise + freedom to teach. “If that’s the case, there’s just going to be a further black eye on higher education here in Texas.”
Texas A&M to vote on banning “race and gender ideology”
The proposal appears to mark the first time a Texas university system offers definitions of what kind of instruction related to race and gender should not be permitted.

If 10% of my business was based on defrauding and scamming people, and was called a "pillar of the global fraud economy", I would have some serious moral qualms about my business. Not our friends at Meta though.

Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

I didn't have emotional investment in the shutdown fight, at least not in the way others clearly did. So I'm not feeling demoralized, though I understand why others are. It's ok to feel demoralized and to take a break. Then we'll get back to work defeating Republicans and electing better Dems
I have thoughts, and they aren’t going to fit neatly into Bluesky posts. Briefly:

1. The deal sucks.
2. Probably not as much as you think it does.
3. It’s good to be mad.
4. FFS, be madder at the GOP.
5. Strategy is hard.
5b. Timing matters.
6. The fight isn’t over.
7. Go pet a cat. (Or a dog.)

The outcome of the shutdown is a useful reminder that a major part of the fight against MAGA has to be a fight against a lot of the elites, including many in the Democratic Party. Rank and file Dems who are angry at the party's caving need to devote some energy to replacing those responsible

Another point is that it gets talked about as if it'd allow party-line legislation all the time. But more often than not, neither party has both houses of Congress plus the presidency. In this century there's been a GOP or Dem trifecta less than half of the time.
one thing i find crazy-making is the idea that getting rid of the filibuster would make congress a purely majoritarian institution. bicameralism itself is counter-majoritarian! equal state representation is counter-majoritarian! the fact that senate elections are staggered is counter-majoritarian!

The number of people who just really, really enjoy dominating and humiliating others never ceases to amaze me
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.
