On the 2nd November, the Glen Innes Art Gallery was proud to induct our first patrons. Mr Howard Eastwood, not only a sponsor, previous committee member and volunteer, had also been on the steering committee after the first public meeting held by the then Mayor, Mr Bob Dwyer. Mr Denis Haselwood, a very well-known supporter of the arts, committee member and volunteer was also inducted.

In honour of Miss Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, a most delightful celebration is to be held, featuring a full day’s screening of a beloved series from 9:30 in the morning until approximately half-past four. Morning tea and luncheon shall be graciously provided, ensuring every comfort for attendees. Guests are warmly invited to dress in the fashion of the period, should their inclinations lead them so.

The Glen Innes Highschool Campdraft Team received the Senior Sportsperson of the Year 2025 award for its 9 members – students from years 9 to years 12 at Glen Innes High School - who just prior to the awards participated successfully in an interstate campdraft of 3 rounds during which the team “displayed remarkable skill and determination, demonstrating the true spirit of teamwork, resilience, and passion for the sport.”

Poking cattle around one day......National Champion the next. Local young lady, Lali Alt has taken out National Champion. Competing in the Southern Cross Feeds EA Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships Lali brought home the Intermediate rider 12,13,14 years Champion representing NSW and  riding Kolbeach Cowboy, owned by Lali. The event held at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre Victoria ran from 4 - 6th December 2025 Lali, who was featured on the front page of Issue 19 of the Glen Innes News in September, has been recognised for her dedication and amazing horse skills in taking out this prestigious award.  Congratulations have flowed from our schools, equestrian and broader community to the Alt family. We are all so very proud. Congratulations Lali!!

A small crowd gathered near the Town Square for the first draw of Spend In Glen at Thursday nights late night shopping. With the  hum of local busker, Nathan Skinner, singing "Hallelujah" and the alluring aroma of sizzling snags, courtesy of Glen Innes Lionesses, 11 envelopes were drawn from the barrel by local identities including Bill and Moira Munro,  Sue Waters and the Mayor. The winners are now been contacted, picking up their cards loaded with cash to be spent at local participating  Glen Innes businesses.  The main prize for this draw went to Gail McIntyre.

GIPS NEWS Glen Innes Public School (GIPS) has been buzzing with activity as we approach the end of another busy year. Last week, in partnership with the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), GIPS celebrated the attendance success of our First Nations students.  Attendance goals were set at the beginning of the term and those who were able to meet their goal were invited to an afternoon of fun games with their families. We are excited to have shared the afternoon with almost 60 children from GIPS, Glen Innes High School and some of the small schools.

2025 Voluntary community organisation – Glenrac Inc The Glen Innes Natural Resources Advisory Committee Inc has celebrated 36 years of operation in our shire, working with landholders and other community groups, and local, state, and federal agencies to “originally tackle land degradation issues of Eucalypt dieback and erosion. The organization is now a cornerstone in the community, driven by a deep social purpose: nurturing a thriving Glen Innes where environmental health and community well-being are inextricably linked.”

Three Dedicated Volunteers Awarded Life Memberships at 2CBD-FM Community spirit was front and centre on Monday night as Deepwater & Districts Community FM Radio Inc. (2CBD) bestowed Life Membership on three long-serving contributors whose efforts have shaped the station across two decades. The awards, presented at the Association’s annual meeting, recognised the exceptional service and commitment of Wayne Jones, Andrew Parsons, and Barry Luxford—each of whom has played a pivotal role in building and strengthening the region’s volunteer-run community radio station. Over the October long weekend 75 family members of the late Arnie and Gwen Hartmann gathered in Glen for a weekend of sport, socialising, the odd drink and generally a wonderful time of reminiscing. Six of Arnie and Gwen's seven children attended. Dal, Ron, Barbara, Ross, Sue and Errol (Tom). Cedric, who lives in the USA could not attend. Along with a large number of their 41 grand children, great grand children and great great grand children there was plenty of catching up.

This year’s St Andrew’s Day promises to be a standout event on the Glen Innes calendar. On Sunday, 30 November 2025, the festivities begin at 5pm with the Australian Standing Stones flag lowering in the garden of Crofter’s Cottage. The national day of Scotland will be marked with a short talk, a $5 raffle, slices of traditional Dundee cake, a toast to the occasion, and a stirring performance by the Glen Innes Singers as the Saltire is lowered. And yes—there will be an Address to the Haggis, complete with the sound of the pipes.

A fantastic weekend of high quality tennis and socialising was enjoyed by all who attended the inaugural Seniors Tennis Tournament run by the Glen Innes Tennis Club held on the 8th/9th November. Around 35 players entered the tournament coming from the local district and beyond with people travelling as far as from Armidale, Inverell, Grafton, Port Macquarie, Ballina, Tamworth and Sydney. 

On Monday, 10th November, Glen Innes High School held its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian men and women who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. We were privileged to have representatives from the Glen Innes RSL Sub-Branch, including Gail Turnbull, James Tattersall, Rod Gair and Victor Tracey, join us for the occasion.

The Glen Innes Bowling Club’s much-loved Rose Carnival celebrated its 68th year in fine style, drawing bowlers from across the state — and beyond — for a weekend of top-quality play, camaraderie, and community spirit. With a total prize pool of $6,000, the three-day event was a major drawcard for bowlers from 21 clubs including Mooloolaba, Coolum Beach, Blakehurst, Redcliffe, Millmerran, Warwick, Tenterfield, Raymond Terrace, Forster, Stanthorpe, Maclean, Coffs Harbour, Urunga, Woolgoolga, Inverell, Guyra, and Bingara.

Most people are well aware of Prime Minister Albanese's recent long awaited meeting with President Trump in the White House. However, they might not be aware that apart from the Prime Minister and  Ambassador Kevin Rudd, the only cabinet ministers present were Madeleine King, Minister for Resources and former Glen Innes resident and High School student, Senator Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation and Minister for Science.

The 14th Annual CSC Working Stock Dog Auction was held at Glencoe on 1 November with Gwydir Fire account Tony Overton of Walcha selling the top priced dog to Pat McMahon of Killarney QLD. Pat McMahon, who is a beef producer, finisher and meat retailer said it takes regular, consistent work to train a stock dog and he takes his hat to Tony Overton for his talent to achieve this.

Under a cool November sky, a large and solemn gathering assembled at Anzac Park on Tuesday, 11 November, to commemorate Remembrance Day 2025. Ex-servicemen and women, students, cadets, dignitaries, and local residents gathered together in quiet reflection, united in honour of those who have served — and those who continue to serve — in defence of our nation. Red poppies adorned lapels, and the gleam of polished medals caught the morning light, each one a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and enduring remembrance.
