when the paper will be published (multilayered data set of a first person shooter, Alien vs Predator (99), end to end speech to text translation) she'll be of course co-authored, even if it's in one thousand years, so to speak.
Here's what I think of her :
One of her traits that I appreciate the most is her sense of initiative and perseverance. For example, it is only because of her perseverance that the project made progress. Initially, we had negative results as extracting features from images didn't quite work as the image data was probably not appropriate, so we switched to the (more complex) task of zero-shot speech recognition in noisy scenarios. Although we began by hoping to include multimodal information to boost latent context, we discovered significant flaws in the speech transcription (by previous annotators) only due to the thorough error analysis and countless hours invested by her. Nonetheless, she was undeterred and worked harder than ever to improve the data quality, rigorously benchmark the baselines and improve the performance. All of this while applying to graduate programs and contacting professors for internships. And it was because of her efforts and persistence that we finally got positive results. Regarding her technical skills, I was very impressed by the amount of knowledge she had already mastered when she started working with me. To be completely honest, I constantly had to be reminded that she is not an advanced Master's student: she can quickly integrate various large pre-trained models and frameworks from different code sources into one seamless pipeline, which is a challenging task. She is constantly ideating and maintains a thorough list of possible hypotheses and tests each one through rigorous experimentation. I particularly appreciate the dedication and effort she puts into providing appealing visualizations to supplement the results. This turned out to be especially useful when we were working on multiple modalities and several experiments simultaneously. She was also invited by Dr. Josef van Genabith to give a presentation about her work at the Multilinguality and Language Technology group, DFKI, Germany. Personality. For the little story, she's specialized in multimodal stuff and worked with me in my Alien vs Predator data set project. She hit a wall when she found out that the transcription were screwed up af so we decided to redo the transcription from scratch but she had to leave before they were finished :(
