Happy National Library Week! If you don't have a library card, go get one. If you have one, use it!

Public goods thrive when everybody uses them. That's why they push kids to charter, home, and private schools, why they sow doubt and fear of libraries and our collections.

Use it or lose it!

If what I fear is going to happen to Libraries in the US if the current regime uses the IMLS as a cudgel to enforce their views on libraries I wonder if the "Libraries are Neutral" brigade will step up when their beloved library neutrality is shattered on the altar of Trumpism

Today my 8YO started telling me excitedly about “non-berry” people. She informed me:

- it’s wrong to call them “he” or “she” because they use them/they pronouns
- They’re not boys or girls
- They have a flag and it’s gray and purple and yellow and white
- they all believe in ghosts

"Library funding draws less than 0.003% of the annual federal budget yet has enormous impact in communities" @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social has a good FAQ about what is happening with/to IMLS; helpful as we decide what to say to our reps, what to put on our signs.

Fellow supervisors and managers: What practices or concepts do you swear by in order to create workplaces and organizations conducive to well-being (yours included!)?

Well shit.
This was one of RFK Jr.’s first orders after being sworn in.

Just an astonishing denial of science and will cause so much pain to the 45 million Americans facing mental health challenges.

This is really interesting. Groundbreaking study on the value of libraries and “third places.”

“A whopping 82% of people who used the library’s physical space and 79% of people who physically attended programs reported more optimism regarding the future, compared to only 58% of digital-only users.”

Today my 3yo and I stopped by Ricardo Levins Morales’ studio to get some notecards. Her review: “This is not terrible!” High praise from a toddler tbh. 😆
