Here are two of our yarn swifts, Kylie and Pete.

It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas.

And now I'm in work, in the studio — also with an autumnal palette, a selection of our hand-dyed yarns awaiting further processing of winding, skeining, twisting, and banding.

Looking out of the window, I see it's a beautiful autumn morning and much nicer than the numerous weather apps on my phone implied.

I've been working on Ovation Pro to add extra scaling options to the picture proxy setting. For those who attended my @rougol.bsky.social talk, I explained the use of proxy images. Base/16, Base/32 & Base/64 now offer even smaller proxies, making for smaller document sizes.

So, following on from yesterday's post. It's back to being another rainy day here in Cumbria – well, I guess it's not called the 'Lake' district for nothing.

But even through the wind and the rain, the beauty of this place is apparent.

It's finally stopped raining here in the Lake District, and the sun is shining. The river level has dropped from what it was yesterday – still flowing through at a fair pace though.

It's so nice to step out of the back door of our studio and take in the tranquil scenery and enjoy a moment of calm.

Yet more skimmers! But where there are small ones, the bigger ones will follow!

I spend my working week staring at coloured dots on a monitor screen, causing a fair amount of eye strain. When not at work, I often spend more time in front of a monitor programming. But as it's the weekend I've decided to spend today staring at a red dot floating in a lake.

Not cable related, but here's another for you wall – an important message I feel.

Some say, I can be a bit 'anal' when it comes to my graphic design print layup work – The desire to do as much as possible using vector graphics, removing bitmaps where possible.

I couldn't possibly comment, except to say I've spent the morning tracing a QR code.

New B4RN fibre has finally been installed. Pretty happy with that. The previous Openreach connection was getting 20Mbps download and 7Mbps upload.

Well, that plan didn't quite work as I'd hoped. I was trying to create a 'linked' #OvationPro applet that would access other internal functions within the base code, but functions have to be listed in the linkbase and linkdefs files to be visible to an Applet's linked Image file.

This reminds me of the RO font I through-together years ago (not a full font and no scaffolding etc.) to mimic the numbers on our old Socbox numbering machine.

Thanks for the info, Piers. Interesting. I didn't realise the STB1 was a 'released' product, I was of the understanding that the STB1 was only ever a prototype and the final Online Media product was something different.

Random Bit Of Retro Crap Of The Day #RBORCOTD

Here is an Acorn JP 101 printer. These were a re-badged Olivetti made printer. Of course, there was a period in Acorn's history when they were owned by Olivetti. This printer (known as SparkJet) used a cartridge of dry powdered ink...

Random Bit Of Retro Crap Of The Day #RBORCOTD

An Acorn ARM 610 CPU card.

This may look like a standard run-of-the-mill main processor card from a RiscPC, but take a look at the connector. It is fitted with a 90-degree plug so that it sits low, adjacent to the m/b (not perpendicular) ...

Random Bit Of Retro Crap Of The Day #RBORCOTD

HCCS Vision Digitiser for Acorn A5000, RiscPC or A7000

I can't remember what the resolution was - not much. I did write a simple web cam app in BASIC to upload a pic to my website every 10 minutes.

Random Bit Of Retro Crap Of The Day #RBORCOTD

#Acorn V34 modem podule card to fit an #RiscPC / #A7000.
A RiscPC I bought in (I think) 1999 was a J233 WebWonder. The last of the remaining stock of Acorn machines, with 233MHz StrongARM and modem. Although I think this particular podule is from an NC.

Only one product listed for Colton in the 92 catalogue (PD4), so Acorn weren't even supplying a translation of a currently available title - sounds about right!
