The idea of CRA “lean[ing] into AI to free up staff resources” should be setting off some red flags. Other departments are being forced too.

He’s cutting “development funding for global health programs” and funding for public transit. Cutting back on Statistics Canada seems so short-sighted too.

Scientists don't think that simplistically. That's more like how science is presented in high school.

I don't think people are arguing for subjectivity over objectivity, but arguing for truth over objectivity. In practice, a call for "objectivity" is a criticism of the conclusion or results, rather than a criticism of the methods, data, or logical validity.

Truth isn't that simple. Most people have confirmation bias, which makes them look for empirical evidence that proves what they already think, while they don't look for empirical evidence that disproves it.

If you can solve affordability running an open server for LLM inference, then you would solve OpenAI's problem in becoming profitable.
Exclusive: Based on documents viewed by this newsletter, OpenAI spent over $12.4 billion on inference from 2024 to September 2025. As part of its Microsoft revenue share, it sent $493.8m in 2024/$865.8m Jan-Sep 2025, implying lower revenues than previously reported.

If you post your findings, please add alt text to images. If you already automated OCR, you have the alt text.

If we all agree indexing is important, Bluesky indexes images by alt text too.

I generally use a local OCR mobile app to help create alt text to make images accessible.
Bluesky can require you to add ALT text before posting.

Is pressure increasing? Absolutely. Are investors and management pushing to “just try it”, hoping issues with the tech will resolve itself, and that developers and audiences will gradually get worn down and just accept it slipping into more and more of the work? For sure.

But it’s not there yet.
