Sorry you had to experience that Chris. I would have challenged the language, being an ally for me means that sometimes you have to do uncomfortable things. Maybe easier for me as a 6ft2 white guy. If it’s any consolation, the racists were outnumbered and out sung this morning in Canterbury.

Cycling for an ice cream in Revfulup, on the north side of Lake Balaton in Hungary and who should show up? Magyar Peter, who if the polls are right will be the next PM of Hungary in 2026. Well received at the husting, spoke well, without notes and took questions on climate, environment and health.

Also, my largest ever Roach. But where have all the Perch gone? Bream seem to be dominant, at least for me.

So, away from all the madness, some interesting ecological news. I have been coming to Lake Balaton in Hungary for 20+yrs.
Largest amount of Starlings ever.
Same for water snakes. Nonbiting mosquitoes in the billions.
A Juvenile Glossy Ibis.
The flip, water level at 10yr low, major over development.

One of my favourite Strands on Lake Balaton in Hungary, is in Zanka. It has a great #mapsinthewild contribution with a braille map of the area plus the restaurants allow the Swallows to nest and you can watch them hunting over the lake and then feeding their young right over your head.

BlueSky #Bee people. I have seen several Bees recently with no wings, they looked singed/withered like this White Tailed Bumblebee. Any idea what is causing this?
I don’t remember seeing this before.

If you are teaching your students next week about the tragic events in Myanmar, I have created a resource in National Geographic MapMaker to support this arcg.is/LXuuz0
Use the Bookmark to zoom into the epicentre to see the population density (turn shake intensity off, Pop density on) #NSTA

An unexpected sight walking through Canterbury today. A juvenile Cormorant, in December!, perched on a medieval church next to the swollen river Stour. I thought it was a statue or gargoyle at first.
Must be from a very late brood.

Hi Susan
In the spirit of inspiration, how about some geography+math? Trigonometry of places and landscapes? Area, distance, scale, data viz, data literacy?
Feels like a largely unexplored area but with great potential.
