My uncle Solly Hemus played for the St. Louis Cardinals back in the late ’50s. Our family came across this letter (when he coached the Mets) tucked in with some of his old baseball memories. I sure miss him and all his colorful baseball stories — and apparently, I inherited the swearing gene.

I live in Milwaukie now, but I spent most of my life in San Diego not far from Miramar — the former Naval Air Station made famous by Top Gun — so I know that sound anywhere. These were definitely military helicopters, and this is the footage I caught by the time I made it out to the front porch.
