It's worth remembering that since the United States v. Brignoni-Ponce (1975) Supreme Court decision, the Border Patrol was allowed to use the appearance of "Mexican ancestry" as a reason to search a car. There is a long history of SCOTUS-approved racial profiling.

"First American Pope, Leo XIV, addresses the world", reads the @cnn.com headline. How about "First U.S. Pope"? Is Argentina in the Pacific? The navel gazing U.S. nationalism that allows for Trump's "Gulf of America" antics is more widely shared than USeans wants to admit... Therein is the problem.

Congratulations to my friend & colleague, Franny Sullivan, for the publication of her book CUBA'S COSMOPOLITAN ENCLAVES with @floridapress.bsky.social. We have talked about it for years in NY, Cuba, Boston, & had a premature celebration in SJ. Caribbean scholars, go get it!

I've previously said that the problem with Donald Trump is not just him but his enablers & silent bystanders. Fine if MSNBC praises Harvard for their "NO" to the bully. Reminder: years ago, Rev. Faith Green Timmons in Flint did just that & put him in his place. Is that simple, one person at at time.
