That awkward moment where your ability to do your day job hangs in the balance of a local election and your moonlighting job gives you non stop rejections and you feel your sanity slowly leaving your body so you just say FUCK IT and write fanfic.

Anyway, have a cat.

Just got out of Beetlejuice! Wooops uh I wasn’t expecting to get emotional about grief. But that show was very good - very appropriate for Halloween, and very appropriate for Samhain (in my own strange view)

Anyway, BEETLEBUBU BEETLEBUBU BEETLEBUBU!!!

To celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary today we are in front row of Beetlejuice on Broadway! So excited for the show!!! It’s definitely nerd central here and I love it! 🎃

Can’t believe I’ve been doing this a decade. See you later, New York Ren Faire.

(On the back of my hoodie it says “No Nazis in Valhalla” and “Witches Against White Supremacy” with patches of Fenrir, Hati, and Sköll.)

So grateful to Brandon Rogers, Bryce Pinkham, and Richard Horvitz for a memorable weekend that was balm for the soul!

Throwback to September, when I met Holly Black at my local Barnes and Nobles! I am so grateful for her words about writing and publishing, and had a lot of fun at the event! My TBR pile is getting even larger…

Grief is heavy. I’m still carving, still writing, and still swimming.

Just a little slower than usual.

Doesn’t your black cat come with a kitty sized demon grimoire?

I have been grieving hardcore on top of a slew of rejections, but today I wrote a piece of flash fiction about Loki, e-mailed my editor about polishing it for @icaruszine.bsky.social, and sent out three new queries.

Ready or not, I'm still going.

I’m 42 today and grateful for the wisdom to know when I need to slow down. Grief and trying to get a book published are a hell of a combination.

Right now I have been taking solace in carving a goddess pole to Hel at my Viking camp.

Things will happen as they are meant to.

I did A Cooking and bought A Shiny (or two.)

Gonna be real though, after a decade of doing this, I’m tired from Faire in new ways. And I’m not even talking about the cooking day. Grief is wild.

But I’ll be back at it soon, carving a new goddess pole.

I really could use some good book news. Having a confidence boost in my work would help me a lot. If I could manifest anything right now, that would be it.

But otherwise I guess I’ll have to settle for manifesting getting up from under these cats and cleaning.

Monty and I are home safe. We visited my dad’s grave, told him about Cory and asked him to say sup. We also asked him to help my great Aunt Gina, because I am not ready to lose my name sake yet.

Everything is different now. But I hope out of this horror show, community and family will prevail.

Found this half a fairy circle on the NJ Turnpike, and the Rick Roll song was playing at the rest stop.

Look I just buried my brother in law and my name sake great aunt is in the hospital, I AM NOT TAKING CHANCES OKAY. Me and the dogs avoided it like the plague.

Please, if you are able, consider donating to help my family as they deal with the tragic loss of my brother in law Cory. His widow and four kids have a long road ahead of them and we are trying to set them up with as many resources as possible.

After 14 hours on the go, here is today in a nutshell. It has been a magical time, now I just need to materialize more hours in the day so I am less like this sassy skeleton! #popficretreat25

My first novel took place during the American Revolution & tho my writing has been focused elsewhere, the lessons of its history never leave me. One fact needs to be at the forefront of any and every celebration (or grieving) event going on today:

There are no kings in America.

Today sucked on a national scale. I am doing EVERYTHING I can do from every angle I can attack it from, but it still feels so shitty.

On this day 249 years ago John Adams wrote “Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory.” I am holding on to that for dear life.
