My newfound friendships with the other fellows. I feel like I've made lifelong friends who also happen to be amazing journalists!

It's been helpful to get away from deadlines and have the breathing space to think about WHY I do what I do, what really matters to me and what I should do next that would best server readers and journalism over all.

I moved here w/ my husband & 2 elementary-age kids. Nieman provided info. to help find a condo and enroll our kids in school. My husband works remotely so the move was an easy transition. Our kids have adjusted well to school. Schools here are used to new students bc of the many universities.

Each week, each fellow takes courses at Harvard & MIT of their own choosing. Then, fellows gather together each Tues and Fri for Nieman programming which is FANTASTIC! Much of it is journalism related. Fellows also put on programming for each other called DIYs.

I don't think anyone feels "qualified enough." Trust in your personal story, your experience, your dedication to journalism. Tell your personal story. Be authenticate. Know that you have a perspective that matters and Nieman values a diversity of voices and points of view.

I was drawn to the Nieman fellowship bc I've worked in local news for 25 years which is in crisis. I wanted time and space to think deeply about ways to address the situation. This fellowship has given that to me plus so much more.
