Imagine instead of planned obsolescence there was planned upgrades. In the 90's IBM delivered the PS/2 Model 90 and 95 which could be updated by swapping a processor complex. The design accounted for tech not yet in production. From 386->486->P90. This pic shows a 486 20MHz and a Pentium 66.

Received my Subaru badges today. My first Subaru lasted 240k miles.
