We find that in the political task appraisals no longer predict discrete emotions. We can predict positive and negative emotions, but not whether people experienced anger, anxiety, disgust or sadness. We did replicate the results of the original task [4/6]

We find that empathic concern correlates positively with inparty favoritism, while perspective-taking is positively correlated with liking the outparty more. Both concepts are part of the broader concept of empathy. Experimental results further support this idea. [2/5]

Surprisingly it is also true for the Republicans in my two samples (i do wonder how representative these Republicans are). Factors such as age, ideology, gender do not explain much variation [3/5]

The surprise finding is that from left to right voters much prefer their politicians using positive emotions compared to negative emotions. This is true for Democrats (see paper), in the Netherlands (see below) [2/5]

Comparing a large range of different treatments we can also identify which aspects of experimental stimuli produce more negative or positive affect [4/6]

Yet, it is possible to find estimates that are fairly robust, by collecting sufficient data, following specific procedures in preprocessing and estimation [3/6]

To quote @bnbakker.bsky.social : working with fEMG data you really start appreciating likert scale. It's difficult and noisy data to work with, particularly if you aim to get a diverse sample using different field locations [2/6]
