But here is the thing. Max is in search of identity. By the end of S1, the elder gives him that identity & a place by his side, one Max won’t be able to give up so easily. Some speculate that Max will leave the brotherhood, but what we’ve seen points to him going further up the Brotherhood’s ranks.

Then, in the final episode, the reason why she embarked on the journey, her father, her role model… has proven to be a terrible person. Lucy learns that her whole life he’s lied to her and that her dad hid behind a mask this whole time. A mask of righteousness.

It’s really all about Lucy, her character arc and what she values. Since she left the vault, it has been disillusionment after disillusionment. She lost her purpose & identity after witnessing the destruction of Shady Sands.
