4. And lots of great thoughts and discussion about all the issues of relying on AI (how it’s currently designed and resourced) to do translation. Current language models do not translate well into several languages and do poorly w cultural context, multi language communication, or non-English data.

3. When thinking about your audience, think about their context, their preferences, their idioms, their cultural touchpoints and adapt your language and approaches based on the idiosyncrasies of your audience. And if possible, involve them as collaborators from the outset.

2. In our efforts to do #scicomm in Spanish, it’s important to think of how to reach our intended audiences. For adult populations, at #CienciaPuertRico we found Spanish-language print, radio & TV media can be powerful + eager collaborators. Don’t be afraid to reach out to them.

Among the ideas shared: 1. Use your spheres of influence to push publishers, university officers & administrators to translate (articles, press releases) or offer content in Spanish. As scientists, we have more power than we realize (yes even as trainees, I could write a whole thread abt this)

Exciting discussion abt translating neuroscience into indigenous languages (the 1ry languages of many colonized indigenous communities in the Americas) when they don’t have words for recent scientific or technical concepts. So important. This would be a great session for @sacnas.bsky.social
