Twitter's principal utility (from a content curation perspective) is in journalists' willingness to post there; without it, Twitter quickly becomes 4chan. Journalists, make it happen. The only thing keeping you there is stasis. We can have nice things.

In honor of all the new arrivals, I'm sharing one of my favorite videos.

It shows 24 hours of Earth's rotation, with the camera locked to the sky instead of the ground. We're all hanging out on this spinning rock.

Brilliant work by Bartosz Wojczyński. 🧪

It's pretty remarkable to see what happens when a platform doesn't deprioritize media links. Can't tell you how important that is to those of us in journalism, especially independent outlets like @truthout.org that work tirelessly on our coverage, only to see it devalued by Musk and Zuckerberg.
Bluesky vs. Facebook vs. X

I’ve seen some good posts recently about the engagement on Bluesky vs other platforms and wanted to add some data from Truthout’s pages to the conversation.

Please take a moment to repost and help us spread the word about how truly nightmarish Facebook and X are.

A true populist, a real man of the people, siding with financial behomeths over consumers. This is how oligarchy works.
Elon Musk today calls for the elimination of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, created in the aftermath of the Great Recession to protect American consumers who the agency says "behaved responsibly" but "were also lured into unaffordable loans by misleading promises of low payments."

Say it louder for people in the back: News "influencers" and opinion podcasters (and owners of formerly good social media companies) need actual news outlets/journalists to report the news first before they monetize their channels.
A few words about the big difference between PRIMARY and SECONDARY sources. Podcasters, TikTok stars and other "influencers" are getting all the attention right now, but for the most part they are secondary sources, talking about / riffing on / remixing what primary sources have gathered elsewhere
