LTN planters in Homerton are being converted to more sustainable rain gardens by @hackneycouncil.bsky.social. The ecological regeneration of our neighbourhood by residents and council working together is creating healthier streets for nature and people.
In two weeks time, a new Buzzline will launch in Uganda's capital city Kampala - 4000 miles from London, as the bee flies. Schools on the Hackney Buzzline are twinning up with schools on the Kampala Buzzline and the children are saying hello!

In this world we need to come together more than ever.

With Dr Konstantinos Tsiolis from @pollinatinglt.bsky.social, Samantha Davenport - soon to be @ldnwildlifetrust.bsky.social and Cassandra Li (front), biodiversity officer @hackneycouncil.bsky.social We're piloting an evidence-based approach to building ground-nesting bee habitats in Hackney.

Happy New Year World. Love from the London New Year's Day Parade. Massive thanks to those who travelled thousands of miles to take part in the British tradition of doing crazy stuff in atrocious weather! #lnydp

We've got a new electric cargo bike for Xmas! The bike provides sustainable transport on the Hackney Buzzline. We're also using it to manage @hackneycouncil.bsky.social street parklets as pollinator havens, working with @grown22.com. Thanks @zeroemissions.bsky.social & @heritagefunduk.bsky.social

I've been awarded the title of Honorary Research Fellow at Queen Mary University of London @qmul.ac.uk. The position fits in the Geography School's Nature and Society theme. For the next three years, we'll be collaborating on research into ecosocial networks on the Hackney Buzzline.

We've made a nursery for mining bees in a new pollinator garden on the Hackney Buzzline. We've selected substrates informed by six years of rigorous research into the preferences of ground nesting bees by Dr. Tsiolis from Pollinating London Together. Everything we do is based on the best science.

Jamal, Mia, Cindy, and Najat joined the #HackneyBuzzline ecoteam at Kingsmead Primary Dchool. Head teacher Evelyn Deeney asks them what they're doing for pollinators, why we need bees and butterflies, and how they chose two beautiful mosaics for their school, made by the Hackney Mosaic Project.

We're thrilled to have formed an art partnership with the Hackney Mosaic Project. Founder Tessa Hunkin tells how volunteers are making a trail of beautiful bee and butterfly mosaics along the #HackneyBuzzline. We've installed the first pair of mosaics at Kingsmead Primary School.

Thank you to 117 people of all ages who've planted 5000 English bluebell bulbs over the last six weeks on Millfields park for the Hackney Buzzline. The last one went into the ground today. Can't wait for spring.

Hackney Housing has planted 25,000 flowering bulbs on the Hackney Buzzline. They're now tucked in for winter on two council housing estates - ready to brighten the lives of residents next spring. @hackneycouncil.bsky.social cabinet member for the environment @sarahwoodberrydown.bsky.social explains.

Hi. I've turned my back on Musk X and looking for hope in Bluesky. I'm building a 4km pollinator corridor in East London called the Hackney Buzzline. I mainly post about that - some recent examples on my feed here. Let's connect...

Children from Kingsmead primary school helping sow a butterfly meadow on the #HackneyBuzzline. The mix of wildflowers and grass seeds was selected to support the Essex Skipper, whose numbers are regionally declining. The project is supported by Butterfly Conservation and the Heritage Fund.

In bloom ... the 500m Hackney Buzzline meadow strip sowed in March by @hackneycouncil.bsky.social, Butterfly Conservation, Millfields User Group and children from Mandeville Primary School & Forest Grove Hackney.

I'm grateful to Butterfly Conservation for the opportunity to talk about our experiences of pollinator conservation on the #HackneyBuzzline at the Big City Butterflies Conference. Lots of fascinating presentations.

Children from Nightingale Primary School planting and seedbombing a new parklet on Hackney's Nightingale Estate. Built on the Hackney Buzzline by residents, charity We Are Possible and the Buzzline's Postcode Gardener.

We stripped turf off Daubeney Fields on the #HackneyBuzzline. Then, we sowed the nutrient-poor scrape with a seed mix tailored to create a meadow for declining grassland butterfly species. Supported by Butterfly Conservation charity for the @hackneycouncil.bsky.social local nature recovery plan.

A few years ago, this playground in Daubeney primary school, Hackney, was covered in lifeless astroturf. Today, we celebrate a new wildlife garden, lovingly brought back to life by Natural Neighbours charity, staff and parents. Restored for children, adults and nature to enjoy.

We're growing the #HackneyBuzzline through @hackneycouncil.bsky.social estates. Hackney Housing joined charity ecoACTIVE volunteers and residents on Homerton's Linzell Estate to add pollinator-friendly flowers, a habitat hedge, bee hotels, woodchip path, and benches to the Linzell Garden.
November 15, 2024 at 11:30 AM
We've launched a partnership between charity ecoACTIVE and CIC GrowN22 to create pollinator havens across Hackney - starting with @hackneycouncil.bsky.social street parklets and community gardens. I'm delighted to be working with people who are making our world a better place.
