This is a galvanized metal bucket labeled as "Warden's bucket". Historically, during World War II, wardens were issued buckets, often red, as part of their air-raid precaution equipment. The buckets were typically used with a stirrup pump to fight small fires caused by incendiary bombs during the Blitz.

Look down the chancel of a church from the altar. At the far end of the nave aisle you can see a dog with glowing eyes.

Thought the criticism is not unjustified, its nature has often seemed to me to be unfair in light of the quite extraordinary personal achievement the series represents, and the important role it has played in the struggle to protect the nation's ancient buildings. The following correction of one of the inaccuracies is therefore to be regarded as no more than that. The Effigy All three editions of Pevsner's Lincolnshire (1964, 1995 & 2002) contain the following information given here in its earliest version about the military effigy in the parish church of St. Faith, Wilsthorpe: MONUMENT. This effigy must be a C17 fake. It has the arms of the Wake family. The crossing of the legs is improbably done, and the surcoat and its carved pattern is also improbable. The way the hand lics instead of holding the shield has no parallel. Finally, although it tends to convey a date about 1300, the lavish belt and the moustache would spell 1375 or so. Pevsner must have written this fairly soon after he embarked on his great survey - that is before he had acquired much experience of English medieval monuments since it is complete nonsense from beginning to end! So far as I can discover, no illustration or full description of the effigy has ever been published, so the latter must be provided before I can comment on what Pevsner says. It is of fine cream-coloured freestone (Ancaster stone ?), and depicts a cross-legged knight, his head on a cushion and his remaining foot, the left one, on a dog, and with his face represented as that of a wrinkled old man with a small moustache.
