Not common no but yes definitely still happens here or there. Few if any people slaughter animal even on farms, it's done humanely and in controlled circumstances but the blood is still collected and used.

We've always actually dramatised and consumed murder as both a taboo and as entertainment equally, from earliest times. Early portry, Early medieval Irish literature, Chaucer, Half the themes in Shakespeare. We can thank the victorians for detective fiction but it's always been Love & Death
