And I've obviously been saying this a lot lately, but BDS does not expect anyone to drop everything made by Microsoft all at once. They pick very specific targets in order to get as wide a coalition as possible, and in the case of Xbox, even suggest different tiers of engagement.

Barack Obama wanted to give Americans universal healthcare when Democrats had a supermajority in Congress. Republicans formed the Tea Party and watered the ACA down to almost nothing. Republicans have a slim majority now and Democrats pretend they’re helpless. They’re not helpless, they’re gutless.

They are listing forbidden words because they are using word-search to identify material they want to prohibit, rather than judgment — which is human and would take longer. Digital search is for when you don’t care about getting things right, and just want to scare people into panoptic behavior
My favorite (perhaps apocryphal) anecdote along these lines was when a newspaper editor did an auto find and replace for “the queen” and changed it to match the style guide to “Queen Elizabeth II” but didn’t realise that edition also had a science article on the social behavior of bees.
Federal employee with a data role told me that a document was removed from employee access because it had the word "inclusion" in it.

As in, "inclusion of data in our estimates."
