Beautiful ‘Thistledown Moon’ rising tonight #fullmoon - do read this piece by @alanparkinson.bsky.social to find out why he suggests this name. naee.org.uk/thistledown-...

A blustery walk on the marshes. We spotted the familiar, cross-faced, hoppity stance of a Little Owl in the dark, corner rafters of a barn, & were accosted by a shouty Sedge Warbler. Such a lot of attitude for the size! Hawthorn awash with ripening fruit and Yellow Toadflax lifted the day’s colours.

Lovely weekend with a friend - we top and tailed her conference w/e travelling & laughing together - in between I got a chance to do a bit of walking & swimming - saw my first compass jellyfish of the year!

Decided last minute to join some friends camping in a field near Eastbourne at weekend. Weather hit & miss but good to switch off & appreciate basics of shelter, food & laughter. Last time here, I stayed in a hotel & saw Simon Reeve in his amazing one man show. Wisdom this trip came from Zoltar. 😉

Just leaving at my local station for London and an actual face to face meeting of the @primarygeogeyppc.bsky.social to spend a day as a volunteer talking #geography with other like-minded colleagues - we love our subject 🌎

Another local resident made us this beautiful bench using reclaimed wood. He carved in the names of three young men lost too soon and much missed in our community. #CommunityGarden - we feel very lucky to have saved this little space to cherish & share.

Found this local pupil admiring his handiwork in the #CommunityGarden sculpture with cast hands from pupils & teachers in his class.

Our #CommunityGarden is looking lovely - we didn’t want to take away messy spaces but also wanted a few formal plantings so local people have made & planted up some raised boxes with herbs, vegetables & colour. Birds & insects loving it all.

The May full Moon is also referred to as the Flower Moon & wild flowers are looking beautiful in hedges at the moment. Deep blues of Periwinkle with the softer hues of Bluebell & Speedwell, dazzling Stitchwort & the bright yellows of Buttercups - whole fields of them - & Welsh Poppy. Sensational.

Impressed by tenacity & watchfulness of this pair of Crows. They’re seeing off all comers as their babies fledge .. meanwhile the Kites are still circling - & waiting. As is the cat 🫣

After a bit of noise Crows settled down - then it kicked off even louder! I looked outside to see parents mobbing a stalking cat. Wish I’d been able to film it - it was serious! A bigger fledgling this time in the verge. Put that back in woods too but I feel there’s more drama to come.

Noise & drama in woodland as Red Kites harassing nest of Crows - 1st time they’ve nested in these woods. 2 fledged so far - one crash landed- so I took decision to move it back across road to cover of woods & whistled parents who were looking in wrong direction. They were on it! @bbcspringwatch 1/2

Attended a talk about ‘Sarn Helen’ as part of #Llandovery Wild Literature festival, by author Tom Bullough & Jackie Morris illustrator (of the book) author & artist. Began to read it & enjoying the ‘journey’ a lot! Poetic, heady words, animals nested in sacred geometry& painted in tonal hymns.

Thrilled to visit Dyfi #Osprey Centre. Not been since days of Ceulan in 2012. Saw current pair from the main hide, through scopes & on the high def screen. Such helpful staff - discussed progress of this wonderful project. Ps fab cake in cafe! www.dyfiospreyproject.com/live

Brilliant from British ornithology - a little spin on their #Cuckoo tracking project 👏 Seriously though project is great for #geographyteacher #migration #Primaryteacher & lots of mileage! www.bto.org

Today’s #CPD with #primaryteachers involved getting a bus into Bath and exploring the beautiful city using the Historical Map from the Historic Towns Trust and History of Bath Research group - lots of #geography and #history going on.

A brisk blowy walk in bitter NE wind across marshes today. Bright skies but bleak wildlife spotting - one Common Buzzard, a Brown Hare & a Marsh Harrier, Chaffinch, Robin & Heron. Lots of Gulls and Partridge though. Spotted a field full of Swans in distance on way home though.

Have you ever heard of Coots nesting in fir trees? I didn’t believe my friend til she showed me two eggs that had fallen out of the nest - maybe helped out by something else? Her garden backs onto marshes and dykes too so why would they do this?

Surprise as some children on Isle of Sheppey allocated a place at a school in Faversham! Wondering if they’ve used ‘as the crow flies’ principle rather than looking at a map? School bus to Sittingbourne + stops takes a good hour & some ch leave home at 7am already!#geographymatters

What wonder-full education looks like! I’ve been gifted these booklets celebrating @attention2place.bsky.social work #WhispersofChalkStream as a community project & it’s glorious! Relational learning with & as part of #nature. ❤️

Started planting our raised boxes in the local #Communitygarden this week - Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Lavender the first to go in all grown from cuttings. Our new hedgerow is budding & our native fruit trees too. Everything so water logged though!
