As a high school government instructor I teach students one of the primary principles of our democracy is an an engaged citizenship. Our democracy can only survive & thrive if the people stay informed & engaged. Here are 2 book recommendations to encourage us to stay vigilant.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

When we Christians are more known for our support of presidents than we are for our support of the poor, the immigrant, the marginalized, and the oppressed, that is when we know we are following someone other than Jesus and we have a lot of repenting to do.
