Heat pumps, maths and energy future
My biggest issue is just it doesn’t feel smooth and doesn’t look crisp or clean.

No need for the homophobia mate common

It’s time Ryan, it’s time to go back to financial analysis…. You hear the spreadsheets calling, the corporate culture that you yearn for, accept your fate. Jk good luck, hope you find something in CS

Ofc batteries aren’t the only but they are very popular( and not very good) hydrogen and hydro have their own limitations and issues ( but should be considered). I haven seen any simulations on wind that accounts for increase in demand and transmission. I don’t believe wind only in aus is possible.
February 15, 2025 at 12:35 AM
That’s a bad assumption ofc, I expect demand to increase. I don’t have an opinion on the specific coalition plan, only on if nuclear is suitable in AUS.
February 15, 2025 at 12:31 AM
They also assume time and costs based on worst case scenarios and don’t look at me the mode, and examples from Korea, china , Japan or even historical from USA France. Now this is not to say a nuclear project can’t go wrong and be too expensive. But so can any building project if mismanaged.

I have quite a few issues with the report and how they calculate costs. I think they massively underestimate the cost of storage (especially lithium batteries ), transmission and the last 10-20% of renewables. And they are assuming each kwh is worth equal amounts.

Luckily not only can new reactors modulate their output a lot more than old ones. Because they work with thermal energy you can use it for other purposes ( industry etc) you can store the energy in easier ways ( not lithium batteries).

I can’t comment on the specific proposal I don’t know enough about it. I have only commented on if nuclear is a good option in AUS. As far as I can tell they are against renewables, which obviously doesn’t make any sense.

Just to be clear, I’m for mostly renewables + nuclear. And against fossils

Heat pumps are not related to nuclear, if you havnt heard of them look into them they are great
risks are dependent on the implementation, but generally the safety risks are extremely low. There can be concerns about the ecological impact of hot water outlet and fish intake, but nothing too serious

There are multiple approaches to using sea water, fx devils canyon has a desalination system, and plenty of other plants use sea water (directly or indirectly), ohi 4, hangbit 6, Olkiluoto 3, Hinckley point c, so it’s not only very possible but very common
February 14, 2025 at 6:13 PM
I will just say that since a large % of the population live near the coast, like many places you chuck the nuclear near the sea and cool it with sea water.
February 14, 2025 at 3:38 PM
It’s not worse case it’s impossible case!

Nuclear and renewables can and do work together very well. Either by then selves is not the best option, so a combination of nuclear and renewables is probably the best choice.(with a high % renewables compared to other countries)either way get rid of coal
February 14, 2025 at 2:09 PM
A lot of plants just circulate the water back into the water ways after it’s been used to cool the reactor. Also no, any of the designs that would be built in aus would be passive safety and void negative meaning loss of cooling just shuts down the reactors.
February 14, 2025 at 11:43 AM
I understand the fear, but this just isn’t based on facts .Even in an absolute worst case scenario with an outdated design. Fukushima only resulted in 1-5 deaths. Nuclear is so much safer than coal and gas that the risks are no comparison. Fossil fuels kill more people a year than nuclear ever has
February 14, 2025 at 11:40 AM
I don’t think only nuclear is the most suitable option for Australia, but a heavy reliance on renewables + nuclear I don’t think is a terrible idea. And honestly at this point literally anything is 100x better than coal and gas

I’m sick of us talking about whether it was or was not a nazi salut. Because compared to the heinous stuff he has said it’s nothing. We already knew his opinions and intentions this changes nothing

Woah woah woah, I just watched a guy do photo lithography in his garage to build computer chips. And another guy figure out an economical way to do silicone doping. That’s added great value to my life. Maybe you are just watching the wrong YouTubers ;)

Hope to see your 6’3” stature casting some tier 1 this season!!

Watch out we can now triangulate your hight based on the poster behind you ;).

Yes it’s a 10m wall below my window and some brambles lol. Also I’m not even sure anyone could get through my tilted open window. And if I reeeeaally was worried I would just have bars installed like a lot of places. Basically this just ain’t a issue

Would be impressed if someone could scale up to the second floor of a house or the block of flats. Also they could just smash a window if they wanted to get it?

China makes some fantastic watches nowadays. Brands like san Martin have good quality and a huge range of watches. It’s a lot easier to get into watches now when you can hop on Ali express and order 4 watches for €600
