Retired Bumbling Planner, now just the dude you have a better chance of meeting in Japan than his own home country.

Puns are (mostly) my own.
Just a normal string of dialogue in Granblue Fantasy (start from the bottom and go up)

Somewhat related - I do not know what makes this a latte for shoguns but I approve.

A bit shy over a year later and it happened again - this was not black teas! Except this time I was just surprised instead of vehemently repulsed.

I’m a big boy now!

(Henry how do you possibly confuse coffee with tea)

And even those two lack the historical momentum as they’re entirely fictional characters. To borrow a quote from a Reddit post:

I don’t think I’ll ever see a reaction as frenzied or emotional as the announcement of Stay Gold in the recent Umamusume 6th event concert, “New Frontier”.

The closest equivalent I can think of is announcing the return of Olga Marie in FGO, or Belial being playable in GBF.

One poignant moment from Chukyo Racecourse that I’ll remember for a long time:

This was at the station gates. Shortly after I took the photo, an older gentleman walked past and looked at Oguri for a bit. He then patted the column reassuringly, as if to say, “Good job” and continued on his way.

Another prominent location: Chukyo Racecourse, where Oguri’s destiny changed forever.

Kasamatsu loves Oguri Cap and Umamusume in general. They’ve embraced the attention the franchise has given it, hosting fan and cosplay events.

Going to the Kasamatsu visitor center you’re greeted with life sized cutouts, Oguri themed souvenirs, and a map of the locations various scenes from the anime took place in.

Kasamatsu has its own celebration events with Cinderella Gray recently. Seeing the race track in real life really emphasizes the humble beginnings of our eternally hungry horse daughter.

There were seven stamps to collect in total, each featuring a character from the series. Not all of them were featured in the series, as that would’ve made for a short rally.
May 19, 2025 at 6:36 PM
Umamusume Cinderella Gray takes place in the Aichi area, and one of the collabs involved a stamp rally at various train stations on the Meitetsu line. A nice way to visit some of the major spots in the prologue of the series!

This has been making the rounds on social media so while I can’t vouch for its accuracy, most of it lines up with my own predictions.

I do think there’s a broader conversation to be had about Asian entertainment drifting to cater to one as opposed to mixed genders but I have to tread carefully…

Hi! Been quiet around here as corporate life has been mundane, so witness the plant I’ve been maintaining in my shower that might need to be trimmed…

(And by maintaining I mean doing absolutely nothing except showering as I thought the steam would water it)

I’ve kept myself totally in the dark about this, time to see what the hubbub is about!

This is the kind of power I need for myself this year, thanks Battle Cats.

I was having a conversation about the Chinese Zodiac with a family member since Lunar New Year was coming up soon, and they eventually asked me, “How do you know the order so well?”

It took me a couple seconds of thinking before it hit me, and the face I made…

Demon Lord 2099 was already enjoyable with the first half but there’s something about this second arc that increased my interest immensely as of ep 10, not sure what exactly, I can’t quite put my finger on it…

(…because I would get slapped if I did)

Wow, Touken Ranbu giving 100 swords to players for their 10th anniversary - I believe the total cast size is 120 so this is almost a complete set.

I’m never going to not remain critical about the gambling aspect of horse racing, but I can still respect the efforts of the jockeys and trainers, which I think Umausume has successfully conveyed to audiences. Congratulations Yuichi Kitamura!

It was also fun to find out that real horse racing in Japan had umamusume before Umamusume was even a thing.

Since the tracks are used multiple times during the day, it’s neat to see the workers going in to literally patch things up - replacing grass plots in spots that have been kicked up, and for dirt tracks tractors smoothing them out.
December 31, 2024 at 6:24 AM
This doesn’t happen with every jockey, just the more popular or famous ones. It’s still a neat demonstration of fan service, as it also lets fans express their appreciation up close.
December 31, 2024 at 6:22 AM
Here’s the wild part to me - after the photos were taken, suddenly the entire crowd in that sector area took shikishi (autograph boards) out of their bags and pressed forward. The jockey then proceeded to grab the closest ones and sign them!

With each race I’ve visited I learn a little more about the keiba scene, and this trip’s lesson was an eye opener. First the context: the winning horse and jockey of each race is brought to the winner’s area to receive their award and pose for photos. Spectators can get very close as seen below.
