I know this is very "first world problems" of me, but I really kind of hate that for my son's entire life I feel like I haven't gotten to just enjoy having my kids because there has always been a constant awful awareness of the seriously existential crises that we are facing.

To offer another perspective, if you're a US citizen, you should fear all the things they're doing to US citizens. You should also fear the things they're doing to your noncitizen friends and family members. You should also fear the things they're doing to complete stranger noncitizens in your name.

I'm right that you can't use HSA funds to pay premiums, right? Because I don't see how someone having to pay $2000 a month for insurance is going to be helped by a savings account that won't pay those premiums.
