we all have
an expiration date.

How lucky we are to share time.

Woke up to the neighbor’s puppy bitting and tugging on my hair.

My kid keeps kidnapping these french bulldog mix puppies through the fence and yesterday it was raining. They left the puppy outside to shiver. So we gave him a bath and hosted him for the night. He snores. He is not staying.

Light is so strange. Quantity of gas molecules can change which photons meet our eyes over long distances. In art class we call this “atmospheric perspective” and the trick to accuracy is in avoiding the slowest wavelengths of light: reds. The farther away the mountain, the more soft purples.

Change in regulation always lags after research results, but we do already see positive discussion which will reduce maternal complications and strengthen birthing hormones for a more pleasant experience. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

More interesting nerdy chemistry here with the GABA effects on brainwave activity pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... The physiological birth reflex is a positive feedback loop that takes days to develop and seconds to disrupt without repair.

Interestingly, the antinociceptive effects of melatonin’s feedback loops can be stopped with naloxone- an opiate antagonist. Also known as the life-saving heroin overdose drug.

But its not just an oxytocin-melatonin ratio dance, the body’s pain regulating GABA neurotransmitters also begin changing the brain’s ability to detect pain as birth hormones rise. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Uterine sensitivity to oxytocin is regulated by Melatonin. Which is why most contractions grow stronger at night when birthing women are drowsy and semi-conscious.

Sleep deprivation in later pregnancy causes labor dystocia and poor outcomes because of this accumulative requirement for healthy birth. The disruptions to the brain’s melatonin reduce birthing hormones. Lights cause labor dystocia. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Melatonin is known to decrease protein levels in the TRPV1.

Oxytocin binds these same receptors to stop signal transfer

Oxytocin is not the only birth hormone that binds with the TRPV1, the receptors targeted in epidurals. Melatonin affects how the TRPV1 works, changing the reactions up the cns with oxytocin’s help. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Pain reception is modulated by hormones. The birth/sleep hormones affect the way the brain receives signals from other parts of the body. More of these sleep/birth hormones makes less reception of stimuli pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
January 18, 2025 at 5:46 AM
Here is some notes about how the birth and sleep hormone Melatonin regulates brain chemistry for pain reception.
This is a feedback loop as it gets stronger and accumulates w time, but is easily disrupted by stimuli (light, fear, talking) mymindfulbirth.com/the-birth-in...

This touches on parasympathetic nervous system regulation and social-emotional toggles to sex/birth hormones. An imbalance in birthing hormones leads to self-awareness and pain pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

This talks about a couple of feedback loops involved in pain reception and “the zone” where birthing hormones sustain the disassociative analgesic effect, and what can go wrong

Happy #FungiFriday!
I have no idea what this is.
What do you think?
January 17, 2025 at 5:36 PM
People reported from zero pain to extreme pain. The scale assists in our understanding of brainwave requirements for a healthy birth reflex.

I understand there is a lot of stigma about labor dystocia. EEG studies help us foster better conditions for more efficient hormone release

My apologies, I thought that was already posted.

Brainwave activity determines pain reception.

Delta activity is a term which means slow wave activity in the brain. The study looks at Pi or pain reception and compares it to brainwave activity during labor.
People with painful labors have different brain activity than people with regular labors
